Perleberg is expecting 80,000 visitors to the spectacular Brandenburg Day!
Next weekend, Perleberg in the Brandenburg district of Prignitz will be the venue for the 18th Brandenburg Day, and the anticipation is great. Up to 80,000 visitors are expected for the colorful festival, which opens on Friday evening with an exciting party on the Hagenbühne. The opening on Saturday will be led by Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD), who will give the festival a celebratory setting. The organizers have big plans: 400 artists and 300 market stalls are on the program, which is rounded off with 120 hours of entertainment on eight stages. In addition to the captivating performances by the band “Karat” and the state youth jazz orchestra, an exciting supporting program will provide plenty of variety.
But what makes Brandenburg Day so special? It is precisely this mix of folk festival and performance show that makes it stand out. Education, the environment and the job market are topics that can be experienced not only in exhibitions, but also through numerous hands-on activities. “PEARL SPREAD – JOIN!” is the motto under which Perleberg puts its strengths and those of the region in the right light.
Tradition in new splendor
Brandenburg Day has a long tradition that began in 1995, when the first festival took place as part of the Federal Garden Show in Cottbus. Since then, the festival has been celebrated every two years in a different city, which enables a true journey of discovery through the state of Brandenburg. As the website political-bildung-brandenburg.de reports, Brandenburg Day not only shows the country's cultural highlights, but also focuses on the country's typical food and drinks at the market stalls.
The diversity of the Brandenburg festivals is also reflected in the traditions. In addition to Brandenburg Day, festivals such as the tree blossom festival in Werder and harvest festivals in many villages are known far beyond the state's borders. Brandenburg Day itself has established itself as an important element of Brandenburg's identity and shows the development of the state over the last few years in an entertaining way.
A celebration for everyone
After the last event, which took place in Finsterwalde in 2023 and attracted more than 100,000 visitors, the anticipation for the upcoming Brandenburg Day in Perleberg is particularly high. Five municipalities applied to implement it, and the decision was made on August 29, 2023 during a cabinet meeting. Perleberg was able to prevail and is now ready to welcome the 12,500 residents as well as the 14 districts and four independent cities in Brandenburg.
The end of the festival will be celebrated with a concert by the Lotte Lehmann Academy on the Great Market, which promises to be a moving finale. The state government is supporting this festive occasion with 360,000 euros, which is a clear indication of the importance of Brandenburg Day for the region. The rbb has also announced a special program: “Brandenburg Day live – the big show from Perleberg” will be broadcast on Saturday, September 13th, from 8:15 p.m.
Overall, the 18th Brandenburg Day in Perleberg shows how lively and colorful life is in Brandenburg. In addition to entertainment, he also ensures that the country's successful developments are celebrated with joy and community. So, let’s go to Perleberg – a visit will definitely be worth it!
