Plan for Gerostrasse: Citizen participation and new ideas will start soon!

In Brandenburg an der Havel, a significant redesign of Gerostrasse is imminent, which the city administration has been planning for several years. A central goal of this project is to shift through car traffic from the old town and the adjacent residential areas. In order to achieve this, the city ring should be expanded to Gerostrasse and more efficient streets should be created. These plans have now been restarted and the city administration intends to actively involve citizens in the process. As stadt-brandenburg.de reports, ideas from city walks in autumn 2022 were already incorporated into the urban design.

The issue of a press kit on January 23, 2024 provided further information. It is clear here that the city administration was commissioned in May 2023 to continue pursuing variant 1 as the preferred option. However, there were delays that will keep the planning office busy until the fourth quarter of 2023. These delays also have an impact on the originally planned time frame for submitting the documents for planning approval, which can no longer be adhered to, as gruene-brandenburg-havel.de also reports.

Current status and citizen participation

Now the next step is imminent: From September 1, 2025, interested citizens can actively participate in the further development of the urban development plan, express suggestions and contribute their opinions via the Adhocracy Plus participation platform. A public information meeting is scheduled for September 11, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at North High School. There, urban development, together with the roads and bridges departments, will present the current status of the planning and explain the further course of events. The North High School Support Association, which welcomes donations, ensures physical well-being.

Detailed information about the event is also available:

Urban development in focus

The development of cities is an immensely important topic that is always changing. The Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and State Planning (MIL) theorizes that improving urban infrastructure is essential for people's quality of life. A modern city should not only be a place to live, but also for work, mobility and a social retreat. In the introduction to the strategy “Brandenburg Cities: Livable and Future-proof”, it was emphasized how important it is for the state to support cities in partnership in order to overcome current challenges and find sustainable solutions. This strategy not only supports urban development, but also cooperation with various social actors, as mil.brandenburg.de explains.

Overall, it shows that the city of Brandenburg an der Havel has a good knack for actively shaping change. With the highest possible level of citizen participation and a transparent planning process, Gerostrasse could soon become a showcase project for urban development.
