B2 between Beelitz and Michendorf: closure ends early!

Finally there is good news for all commuters and residents in the region! The full closure that has existed since October 13th due to renovation work on the B2 federal highway between Beelitz and Michendorf will be lifted early. How maz-online.de reported, the busy route will be available again without restrictions from Thursday evening, October 30th, at 6 p.m.

The construction work was originally scheduled to last until November 7th, but the construction workers from Eiffage Infra-Ost did a great job and completed the necessary repairs faster than planned. During the 13 days of the total closure, the road structure was completely replaced because the embankment on the B2 between the Seddiner lakes had collapsed.

Efficient measures for traffic safety

The renovation work included the complete replacement of the damaged road surface and an adjustment of the shoulder areas. There were also restrictions in the previous year due to closed lanes and traffic light regulations. Particularly important was the stabilization of the dam, for which sheet pile walls were driven into the ground.

The authorities deliberately scheduled this full closure during the autumn holidays in order to minimize the burden on road users. During the construction phase, drivers were rerouted via the A9 and A10 motorways, which initially increased the travel time from Beelitz to Michendorf from 5 to up to 20 minutes. There were also diversions for bus lines X43, 643, 645, 646 and 647.

Cycle paths and sidewalks remain open

However, cyclists and pedestrians were given the all-clear: parts of the footpath and cycle path remained largely open during the construction period. Once the work in this phase has been completed, it is planned to ensure half-way traffic routing at the construction site in order to continue to support traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users.

These measures are an important step in improving the infrastructure around Lake Seddiner. The work was necessary to ensure the safe and rapid implementation of the traffic routes - a concern that not only benefits the residents but also commuters. Thanks to the rapid completion, everyone can look forward to an unhindered journey on the B2 again from Thursday!
