The summer holidays in the Potsdam region begin on Thursday, and the streets in the city are already under the sign of major construction projects. Construction work on six major roads will continue until early September and could pose a real challenge for road users. The traffic jams are expected to reach their peak on Schopenhauerstraße and Breite Straße, as maz-online.de reports. Here are some of the construction sites you may encounter in the coming weeks.
With the start of construction work on July 24th, there will be traffic restrictions on Breite Straße between Dortustraße and Schopenhauerstraße. Renovation work on the northern lanes is planned to last until August 8th. The same source highlights that significant traffic disruptions are also expected on Schopenhauerstraße and Lange Brücke, although completion here will only take place a week later.
Construction site overview
The following construction sites will be important in the coming weeks:
- Amundsenstraße/Potsdamer Straße: vom 26. Mai bis 19. Februar 2026, Fahrspursperrung wegen Erneuerung von Wasserleitungen.
- Drewitzer Straße: Vollsperrung vom 5. Mai bis 31. Juli für die Erneuerung der Fahrbahn.
- Nedlitzer Straße: Vollsperrung vom 24. Juli bis 6. September aufgrund von Hausanschlüssen.
- Friedrich-Engels-Straße (ZOB): halbseitige Sperrung vom 24. Juli bis 5. September für Sanierungsarbeiten.
- Schopenhauerstraße/Luisenplatz: bis zum 23. Juli wird es hier ebenfalls zu Fahrspursperrungen kommen.
In addition, a mini roundabout is being built at Werder train station, which could lead to additional local traffic jams. All construction work should be completed by September 5th at the latest, which would be a relief for all drivers in the region.
Fish world in Seddiner See
Another exciting aspect is the study of the fish world in Lake Seddin, where 13 species of fish were recently identified. The most common include lead, perch, rudd and bleak. Interestingly, the European catfish has been detected, while catfish, which were still numerous in the 1990s, are missing. Regular surveys of the fish populations are being planned in order to promote a healthy ecosystem in the long term, as mobil-potsdam.de reports.
Leased gardens for sale
Demand for leased gardens remains high in Beelitz. Many properties are currently for sale, with transfer fees between 5,000 and 120,000 euros. Gardens that are easily accessible on foot are particularly in demand. Many of the current tenants are aged between 60 and 80 and are considering giving up their gardens. This development reflects the increasing interest in recreational gardens in the region, indicating that many people are looking for a retreat in nature, as the maz-online.de points out.
