Mayoral election in Teltow: Candidates present their plans!

Things are about to get exciting in Teltow: The mayoral election is coming up on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and the successor to the long-time incumbent Thomas Schmidt, who is retiring after 24 years, is the central issue in the city. An estimated 23,000 citizens who are eligible to vote have the opportunity to cast their vote and thus help shape the future of Teltow.

The two promising candidates are Claudia Eller-Funke from the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens and Andre Freymuth from the CDU and FDP. Both presented themselves at the MAZ election talk to an audience that listened eagerly to their visions for Teltow. The discussion was moderated by Elke Kögler and Peter Degener, who asked the two candidates to explain their ideas and plans.

The candidates in portrait

Claudia Eller-Funke brings a lot of experience with her: The 56-year-old, who has lived in Teltow-Ruhlsdorf since 1999, is head of department at the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. Equipped with a master's degree in public administration, she has already served as a city councilor and chairwoman of the city council. Their goals include, among other things, more efficient waste disposal, social housing and the creation of green oases in the city. She is currently also involved in the local history association and in the welcome assistance.

In contrast to this is Andre Freymuth, 41 years old, who works as a professional soldier and head of project teams in the Bundeswehr. He has lived in Teltow since 2012 and brings with him knowledge of business administration and business information technology. Freymuth is committed to larger housing projects to reduce rental prices and plans to develop overgrown areas and plant more trees.

Urgent issues in focus

Both candidates addressed important topics during the election talk. Affordable apartments are at the top of the agenda: While Eller-Funke plans to identify suitable areas, Freymuth is focusing on extensive construction projects. The discussion about the preservation and maintenance of green spaces shows that both agree that streams and urban green spaces need more attention.

Another hot topic was the quality of stay at Ruhlsdorfer Platz. Eller-Funke wants to activate the trade here, while Freymuth addresses the current challenges due to the road situation. The youth of Teltow have also heard and are calling for more meeting places and activities through the youth advisory board to make the city more lively.

Election conditions and procedures

Teltow voters are allowed to cast their vote on Sunday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. All electoral districts are barrier-free, with only two exceptions. Voting without a voting slip is only possible in your own electoral district, while with a voting slip you can also use other electoral districts in Teltow or postal voting. A look at the election proposals shows that the election committee has already approved the candidacy of Eller-Funke and Freymuth.

Teltow is in a phase of growth that brings with it both opportunities and challenges. While the population has increased from 17,500 after reunification to around 27,500, this also leads to problems such as vacancies and uncoordinated construction. The local history association warns that the city must not degenerate into an anonymous bedroom community.

The decision as to who will succeed Thomas Schmidt is now in the hands of the voters. You have the chance to cast your vote for the ideas and plans of the two candidates and thus set the course for the coming years in Teltow.
