Teltow mayoral election: Candidates in a direct exchange of blows!

The mayoral election is just around the corner in Teltow and preparations are in full swing. On September 28, 2025, the time has come: citizens are called upon to vote for the successor to the outgoing mayor Thomas Schmidt (SPD). The election committee has now officially confirmed the two candidates: Andre Freymuth from the CDU and Claudia Eller-Funke from the SPD. If the wheel of the election turns, around 23,000 voters could make their decisions on election day between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

At the recent MAZ mayoral election talk in Teltow, in which both candidates took part, exciting topics were addressed that are of particular concern to citizens. It was about important points such as housing and cityscape, festivals and youth, as well as traffic and the city's economy. Specific questions about security in Teltow were also discussed. The exchange showed how important the candidates are to the suggestions and concerns of the population.

Candidates in focus

Andre Freymuth was born in 1983, is a professional soldier and wants to demonstrate a good knack for transport policy. He advocates for speed limits of 30 km/h in Ruhlsdorfer and Teltower Straße, especially to protect children on their way to school. His competitor, Claudia Eller-Funke, born in 1968, is head of department in the Federal Ministry and has a strong vision for a secure future. She also supports a speed limit in urban areas and sees this as an opportunity to increase traffic safety and noise protection.

Another central topic at the talk was the expansion of the S-Bahn. While Freymuth calls for the interests of residents and nature conservation to be taken into account when planning, Eller-Funke is a clear supporter of extending the S-Bahn to Stahnsdorf - a step that could promote both mobility and environmental protection.

Administration in the digital age

With regard to the urgently needed modernization of administration, both candidates agreed that digital progress must be pushed forward. Freymuth wants to establish digital offerings and shorten processing times for citizens' concerns, while Eller-Funke places a strong focus on the service nature of the administration.

The safety of Teltow citizens is another important concern. Freymuth is planning measures such as better lighting and the introduction of a new prevention council, while Eller-Funke not only focuses on light as a safety factor, but also focuses on emergency columns and the activation of the prevention council. Both candidates want a vibrant community and emphasize the importance of neighbors and clubs.

The voting method is clear: whoever receives more than half of the valid votes is elected. If this fails, a runoff election is scheduled for October 12, 2025. Citizens therefore have the opportunity to obtain thorough information and to exercise their influence. In such a framework, where there are many other district and city council elections in addition to the mayoral election, diverse citizen participation can have more impact.

For everyone who wants to better prepare for the election, the “Informed Voting” project offers comprehensive information about the local elections in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. Here, voters can find out about important topics and processes surrounding the election and cast their vote carefully.

The next time will be exciting, and we can only hope that the people of Teltower can look forward to a lively and constructive discussion of the issues of their future.
