Peace bell from Brück reaches Jerusalem - a symbol of hope!
Today is a very special day: The peace trek from Brück has reached Jerusalem after an adventurous journey of over 3,500 kilometers. The trek, which started in Brück on May 6, 2025, was officially launched on May 8, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. This event will culminate with a ceremonial handover of the symbolic peace bell to the Hand-in-Hand School on November 13th at 11:00 a.m. The bell, cast from military scrap, represents hope, reconciliation and the pursuit of a common future for Jewish and Arab children in Israel. So reported maz online.
The path was by no means straight. The trek was originally supposed to cover a distance of 4,800 kilometers, but the participants had to stay in Bulgaria for almost two weeks because they were denied passage through the border to Turkey and changed their course. Among the hikers are Bernd Schulz, Jonathan Feix, Andreas Kunkel and Gunter Völker, some of whom traveled through the landscape with their own horses and carriages. Helmut Kautz, chairman of the Peace Bells Association, impressively documented the challenges they experienced along the way.
Celebrations in Jerusalem
The trek will travel in Israel for two weeks, covering the final stage of around 100 kilometers to Jerusalem with local mules. This stage is not only geographically but also symbolically important: it expresses the solidarity between Germany and Israel and is a sign of hope for peace. In Jerusalem, the bell will finally be handed over to the Hand-in-Hand School, where it will serve as a school bell for teaching Jewish and Arab children. That prepared friedenstreck.de.
The handover on November 13th will be particularly celebratory, as it also marks the 72nd birthday of Friedbert Enders, the former commander of the NVA Brück base. Jerusalem welcomes participants with open arms, with the mayor and the German ambassador in attendance. This event is accompanied by around 40 trek participants representing different backgrounds and religions. A living sign of togetherness that seems all the more important in times like these.
An act of reconciliation
The Peace Bell Trek is more than just a journey - it is an expression of gratitude and hope for peace and reconciliation in Europe, exactly 80 years after the horrific Second World War. This idea is also reflected in Germany's current efforts to advocate for Israel's security and the return of captured Israeli citizens. Germany's strong support for Israel, especially after recent events, shows the deep ties between both countries and is a core part of German foreign policy, it describes deutschland.de.
In the coming days, the trek will also take part in other events, including the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the youth exchange between Bad Belzig and Even Yehuda, as well as a visit to the sister city of Kfar Yona. We look forward to these moving events and the messages of hope they bring. A good hand for a better future!
