New school in Michendorf: A building that will shape the future!
A lot is happening in the community of Michendorf, especially with regard to the use and redesign of buildings. An important step has now been decided: the administration building at Poststrasse 1 is about to be sold to the Oberlinhaus association. This unanimous decision by the local council opens up the possibility of reactivating the old school building, which served as a school until the end of the 1990s and as the headquarters of the building authority until October 2024, as an educational facility.
The Oberlinhaus association plans to convert the building into a school for children and young people with autism. In order to implement this exciting vision, the association needs approval from the Ministry of Education. A barrier-free renovation is underway, which, according to estimates, could take two to five years. Attention is paid to the requirements of the Disability Equality Act, which ensures that buildings are accessible to everyone.
Further developments in the region
Another highlight of the region is the delay of the new after-school care building on the former Struik Food site in Beelitz. The plan was to move in at the beginning of November, but the necessary documents for building approval are still missing. The responsible construction company has not yet submitted all the necessary certificates, which is why the move is expected to take until the end of November. The new building is available for 400 children and could provide important impetus for care in the region. After more than 38 years, Frank Schmidt, the chief planner at the Potsdam State Road Authority, is retiring. Among other things, his work influenced the construction of local bypass roads, which significantly relieved through traffic in Michendorf and Beelitz. In retirement, he plans to explore the world and keep an eye on some of his unfinished projects, including a tunnel in Werder/Havel. The local news situation is rounded off by the publication of a new book by Luna Kutta from Jüterbog. “Dog Safety: Staying Safe and Mindful in Your Dog’s Life” promises valuable tips for responsible interaction with dogs and is available online for around 17 euros. Kutta not only brings in her knowledge from further training in animal-assisted interventions, but also her personal experience as an author. The developments in the area show that there are a variety of topics and projects on the agenda that are intended to make the quality of life and offers for the population sustainable.
