Rain and protest: CSD Bernau attracts record participants!

Bernau, Deutschland - On July 12, 2025, the third Christopher Street Day (CSD) took place in Bernau, northeast of Berlin, and he was a real ray of brightness in the middle of rain and right -wing extremist threats. An estimated 700 people took part in the demonstration, which made the event one of the best visited in the history of the CSD in Bernau. The motto of the day, "Queer stays here", was loudly and proudly carried into the world, despite the continuing rains and a neo-Nazi area of the organization "German Youth". According to [Tagesspiegel.de] (https://www.tagesspiegel.de/video-trotz-dauerregens-and-neonazi-counter-protest-so-many participants in the wie-nie-beim-csd-14014541.html), the participants hardly felt anything from the approximately 40 counter-demonstrators, since the police ensured that the two groups made the two groups remained separated from each other.

The mood was nevertheless tense, and in the air there was a noticeable threat, despite the peaceful celebrations. The police spokesman Roland Kamenz emphasized that everything went without trouble, but the police investigated two participants in the counter-demonstration because of wearing anti-constitutional symbols, including SS runes on a belt. The mayor of Bernau, André Stahl (left), was positive about the peaceful course and the high number of participants despite the weather, which shows that the community is firmly together, no matter what comes. This is also supported by rbb24.de, which reports on the enjoyable atmosphere and the smooth running of the event.

attacks at CSD events

The threatening circumstances around CSD events are not new. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation found that a total of 55 attacks at CSD events in Germany were recorded in 2024. In particular, right -wing extremist mobilization against such events has increased. According to [lsvd.de] (https://www.lsvd.de/de/ct/13948-rechtsextreme-Mobilizing, against-csd events) between June and September 2024, right-wing extremists took place, with the number of participants often staying under 100 before they rose to up to 460. The new right-wing extremist youth movements show an aggressive rhetoric and an increased online presence, which also heated up mobilization.

The organizers of CSD events are therefore faced with a double challenge: the celebration of the LGBTQI+community and at the same time guarantee the safety of the participants. It is becoming increasingly clear that these mobilizations are a coordinated attempt to intimidate the LGBTQI+community, and it is hoped that the authorities take the necessary steps to secure the backing for these important events.

Overall, the CSD in Bernau remains a sign of diversity and acceptance that masters daily challenges and is a strong symbol of solidarity in the LGBTQI+community.
