Forest fire between Frohnsdorf and Bardenitz: Fire brigade in action!
On Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2025, a forest fire broke out between Frohnsdorf and Bardenitz on federal highway 102. The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. and the fire department is already on its way to the scene. Unfortunately, the extent of the fire is still unclear. However, according to MAZ Online, an area of around three hectares could be affected.
What is worrying is that the cloud of smoke was clearly visible from several kilometers away, for example from Beelitz. Police have sent several patrols and fire investigators to the scene to check the situation. There is currently no information on the affected area or the threat to neighboring areas. This is reminiscent of the large fire in June 2022, which affected several hundred hectares in the same forest and led to the evacuation of residents.
Current operations and incidents
A look at the statistics from the last few years shows that there were a total of 251 fires in 2023, covering around 765 hectares. In 2022, which was characterized by extreme conditions, there were even 523 fires on a total of 1,426 hectares. A major fire at the end of August 2024 at the former Jüterbog-West military training area made it clear how quickly fire can spread in forest areas, supported by the Federal Police and Bundeswehr with helicopters.
The value of our forests
In Germany, forests are not only an important place for recreation, but also of crucial importance for environmental protection. According to BLE, we must increasingly focus on the protection and preservation of these valuable resources. Since the 1970s, forest fire data has been compiled into nationwide statistics in order to meet safety standards and prevent future fires.
The goal of reducing the number and size of forest fires is becoming increasingly important in densely populated countries like Germany. It is not only a question of environmental protection, but also of the safety of local residents. The current raging fires could increase the feeling of unrest among the population and remind us to treat nature with care.
