Building culture Brandenburg: President Liedtke emphasizes common values!

Potsdam, Deutschland - On July 10, 2025, the sixth colloquium of the Baukultur Brandenburg network took place in the Ministry of Infrastructure and State Planning in Potsdam. Landtag President Prof. Dr. Ulrike Liedtke opened the event with a warm greeting as a patron. In her lecture, she underlined the central role of building culture in our society, which not only creates places of remembering and living together, but also space for dialogue and discussion. "Every street and space is an opportunity to communicate about our values, our history and our future," says Liedtke. The colloquium offers space for reflection and new impulses to anchor building cultural values in politics and society, the event participant informed Landtag.brandenburg.de.

among those present were State Secretary Dr. Ina Bartmann and representatives from ministries, chambers, associations, municipalities and universities. This wide range of participants shows how important the networking of different actors in the field of building culture is. The Brandenburg Building Culture Network, which has been working under the patronage of Liedtke since 2016, brings these groups together to maintain the tried and tested.

A look at the building culture in Brandenburg

The building culture in Brandenburg is experienced by the Baukultur Brandenburg e.V., founded on February 18, 2020. The aim of this association is to raise awareness of good design and to actively promote building culture. Building culture includes all human activities that change and develop the built environment. Sustainable new buildings, sensitively renovated monuments and original conversions are particularly funded. A special highlight: the list of "Places of Building Culture" in Brandenburg is regularly expanded and is open to suggestions from the public. Interested parties also have the opportunity to place events and publications on the topic on the website, such as the Förderverein baukultur-brandenburg.de.

At the numerous discussions and network meetings, not only the theory is used, but also practical approaches. The actors of the building culture include not only urban planners, but also universities with their specific disciplines.

academic perspectives

An example of interdisciplinary cooperation is the course "Building Culture and Sustainable Monument Preservation" at the Rheinmain University of Applied Sciences. Here are experts like Prof. Dr. Cristian Abrihan, an experienced architect and monument conservationist, ready to train students in this topic. Other specialties that deal with the building culture at the university include monument preservation and historical urban planning. These academic programs support the implementation of the approaches and philosophies discussed in the colloquium in practice, as explained in more detail on the website of the University [HS-RM.de] (https://www.hs-rm.de/architektur-und-bauingenieurwesen/studiengaengaenge/master/baukulturerbe--sustage-heritage-Conservation. In summary, it can be said that the building culture in Brandenburg is strengthened by the close cooperation between politics, science and society. Initiatives such as the support association and the building culture network prove to be important supports for a future -oriented development of the built environment. This shows impressively how sustainably our cultural heritage can be dealt with.
