Construction site chaos in Potsdam: summer holidays bring new closures!

In Potsdam, extensive construction work on the main road network is on the agenda for the summer of 2025. As the city administration reports, the repair and maintenance of the roads should take place specifically during the summer holidays in order to keep traffic restrictions as low as possible. The work carried out is necessary, but there will still be unavoidable restrictions on traffic flow. Since many families go on vacation during this time, there is no school transport, which could have a positive effect on traffic congestion.

An analysis shows that private motorized transport decreases by around 20% during peak times; on certain sections of the route this decline can even be up to 33%. In order to further optimize traffic, the city recommends that citizens avoid peak times in particular and consider alternative means of transport such as bicycles. Current information about construction sites and possible traffic disruptions is available on the website mobil-potsdam.de.

Construction work already underway and planned

Several construction sites are currently active, including at the Leipziger triangle, where Heinrich-Mann-Allee will remain closed until the end of 2025. Diversions via Friedhofsgasse and Friedrich-Engels-Straße have been set up. The renewal of the bridge over Horstweg and the work on Potsdamer Straße to replace drinking and dirty water pipes are also examples of the important infrastructure projects that the city is pushing forward.

  • Bauprojekte:
  • Leipziger Dreieck: bis Ende 2025
  • L 40 / Horstweg: bis 4. Quartal 2025
  • Amundsenstraße: bis 1. Quartal 2026
  • Schloßstraße: bis 1. Quartal 2026
  • Gutenbergstraße: bis 4. Quartal 2025
  • Brandenburger Straße: bis 4. Quartal 2025
  • Ketziner Straße: bis 3. Quartal 2025
  • Drewitzer Straße: bis 31. Juli 2025
  • Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße: bis 1. Quartal 2027

New measures will be added in summer 2025. For example, Breite Straße will be closed from July 24th to August 8th, 2025 to renovate the northern lanes. Friedrich-Engels-Straße and Nedlitzer Straße are also affected by closures, which particularly affect parking spaces and house connections.

Forecasts for traffic in Germany

The connection between the upcoming construction work in Potsdam and the nationwide forecasts is obvious: strategic planning should be used to counteract the expected traffic loads evenly in order to ensure the mobility of citizens in the future. The use of sustainable means of transport also plays an important role here.
