Gigantic thunderstorms threaten: Potsdam in the storm of natural forces!
After a stormy afternoon, the all-clear has now been given: The German Weather Service (DWD) has lifted the warning of severe thunderstorms in Potsdam. However, in the midday hours, lightning, thunder, heavy rain, hail and strong gusts of wind were expected, which caused a lot of disruption to the local weather pattern. The DWD reported that gusts of wind could reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, which has already led to worrying incidents in recent days.
At the end of June there were two violent storms in the Neuer Garten, in which two people were tragically seriously injured when a tree top fell on them uprooted. These incidents make it clear that it is best to pay close attention to such weather warnings.
Current weather situation
The temperatures in Brandenburg are rising to a pleasant 25 degrees today. It doesn't get too cool at night either: temperatures drop to around eleven degrees. However, the weather situation remains unstable. According to the DWD, further showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, although no more rain is expected in most places from midnight onwards. Similar weather is expected tomorrow on Wednesday - with temperatures of up to 22 degrees, accompanied by further showers, thunderstorms, hail and gusts of wind.
There are several warning levels for wind-goers: If the wind speed exceeds 50 km/h, the weather service will sound the alarm bells. Decisions on a case-by-case basis are appropriate from 90 km/h and for summit locations from 100 km/h. For thunderstorms, the warning levels are even more differentiated: While level 1 sounds the alarm for lightning strikes and winds, there is a warning (level 2) for severe thunderstorms with heavy rain or hail.
Safety in dangerous situations
In view of these severe weather events, using the German Weather Service's new natural hazards portal is an interface for everyone who wants to obtain information and prepare in good time. This not only offers real-time data on weather extremes such as heavy rain and storms, but also interactive maps that enable individual risk assessment. Users can select specific locations and receive tailored information while learning how to protect families and homes during such weather conditions.
In the event of a natural event, the portal also helps to better assess potential threats and prevent damage in the future. For example, a homeowner can notice flood warnings in good time and take appropriate protective measures such as preparing sandbags - a useful helper that sustainably improves disaster protection in Germany.
More showers and thunderstorms are expected, and you should be well aware of where and how you can best protect yourself - this is not a question of panic, but of caution. Use the information provided to protect yourself and your loved ones!
