Carnival in Potsdam: atmosphere at the start despite the drizzle!

On November 11, 2025 it will be “Kölle Alaaf” again in Potsdam! The carnival season was officially opened with a lot of pomp and a grand opening celebration. The big parade started in Babelsberg at 10 a.m., enriching the cityscape with colorful costumes, cheerful music and a unique atmosphere. Mayor Noosha Aubel symbolically handed over the key to the town hall, which is considered a striking opening of the “fifth season”. “Cheerfulness is of the utmost importance in difficult times,” emphasized Aubel during the event, which attracted large spectators.

The parade, in which four carnival clubs took part, started at the depot and led via Alt Nowawes and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße back to the Babelsberg town hall. The clubs – the Lindenpark Carnival Club (LKC), the Potsdam Carnival Club (PKC), the Ship of Fools and the “Rot Weiß” Groß Glienicke carnival club – effortlessly contributed to the festive atmosphere. The Funkenmariechen, who performed a show in front of the town hall, particularly caused enthusiasm.

Plans for the season

The atmosphere on the first day of carnival was described as “sensational” – no wonder there were so many happy faces! A special highlight will be the opening event of the LKC, which is scheduled to take place on November 15th in Lindenpark. The 47th session starts at 7 p.m., and ticket prices are affordable: 9 euros in advance and 12 euros at the box office. There is already talk about the carnival celebrations from February 13th to 15th, 2026, with a special children's carnival planned for February 15th.

The anticipation for the celebrations throughout the carnival season is increasing, especially with further events in the coming months. The PKC celebrations will kick off on February 14th in the “Zum Lindenhof” restaurant in Alt-Drewitz. The president of the “Rot Weiß” carnival club, Matthias Völker, has also decided to visit friendly clubs in order to actively promote the tradition.

In Potsdam, the carnival season is not just a celebration, but also a sign of gathering and joy. The community is strong and active, and everyone involved has developed the right sense of anticipation and celebration. The coming weeks have big things in store - here's to a crazy winter!
