New Stadtbad Babelsberg opened: Celebration with free admission!

Potsdam, Deutschland - The day came! Today, on June 28, 2025, the official handover of the keys for the newly redesigned "Stadtbad Park Babelsberg" took place. Mayor Burkhard Exner and Managing Director Monty Balisch presented the key to Ute Sello, the managing director of the pool landscape Potsdam (BLP). After a long waiting time and a number of delays due to property issues, monument protection requirements and delivery bottlenecks, the city pool is now ready to be reopened.

After decades of barrack -like buildings, an architecturally valuable ensemble was created here, which offers much more than just a modern bathroom. With the restoration of the historic Kutschweg, the "Drive", not only nature, but also the cityscape, is upgraded here. A real piece of jewelry that was created as part of a property exchange.

a festival for big and small

The big opening ceremony is planned for July 5, 2025! From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. there is free admission so that all Cologne and Potsdamer can experience the new conditions. Some attractions will make the opening a special event: a beach Olympics, trampoline jumping, bouncy castles and handicraft workshops are on the program. For the little guests there will also be the opportunity to make up for the face - according to the motto: fun for the whole family!

Modern, sustainable and barrier -free - these attributes shape the new city pool. It not only offers modern sanitary facilities, but also disabled -friendly changing rooms and a blind control system. Because of the location directly on the water and the connection to the historic park, you can also relax and enjoy nature. The bathroom is operated by solar energy, geothermal energy and a heat pump, which makes it particularly environmentally friendly.

The numbers behind the project

The costs originally amounted to around 4 million euros, but rose to just under 9 million euros due to various challenges. The project received support of 1.6 million euros from the Federal Ministry of Living, Urban Development and Building. Stadtwerke Potsdam acted as the owner and client, while the BLP rose as the operator. The renovation, which began in September 2023, is the crowning glory of the modernization of Potsdam's beach and indoor pools that have been running since 2005.

With the Stadtbad Park Babelsberg, Potsdam will have a total of four modern outdoor pools, which significantly increases the attractiveness of the region as a leisure destination. The new location near the Humboldt Bridge and the integration of the Potsdam Seesportclub with modern club rooms and boat hall are an additional profit for the community.

As it ultimately looks like when the doors open on July 5, 2025, there is only one thing to say: For everyone who lives in the area, a visit to the city pool is mandatory - a real highlight is on the way!
