Potsdam celebrates 30 years of successful study of the restoration!
In the UNESCO World Heritage City of Potsdam, an important anniversary will be celebrated this year: The course of the “Conservation and Restoration” course at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences has been in existence for 30 years. This event will be celebrated with a festive alumnit day on Thursday, June 19, to which everyone interested is cordially invited. The occasion not only promises a review of three decades of successful training work, but also exciting insights into the current challenges and developments in the field of monument conservation.
"The course is a successful mix of art history, science and applied technology," explains the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences on its website. The students benefit from practical, interdisciplinary training with specializations in wood, stone or wall painting. The aim is to preserve the cultural value and the material integrity of objects. In order to achieve this goal, close cooperation with museums, monument care institutions and churches are of great importance. These partnerships give students a practice -oriented access and international insights into global restoration practices.
the future restorer
What makes a good restorer? The profession requires a sense of responsibility, critical judgment and above all communication skills. Restorers work with an irreplaceable cultural asset that embodies diverse values - be it culturally, historical or ecological. In order to meet these high requirements, well -founded academic training is essential. This not only includes the preliminary examination, analysis and concept development, but also the practical implementation of preserving and restoration measures. The training is not just a unique process. It requires constant further training to always stay up to date with the latest art and methods.
Since the monuments and historical objects convey a spiritual message of the past, it is the central task of the restorers to preserve these significant relics for future generations.
alumnitag and summer festival
The program of the alumni day on Thursday is promising. Former students will report on their everyday work and discuss questions about the future of restoration in a panel discussion with international alumni. There is also the possibility to run networking at the summer party and to exchange ideas with other interested parties. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. in the main building of the FH Potsdam, room HG 067.
If you are interested in this fascinating department or simply have a passion for the preservation of cultural assets, you should not miss this appointment. The Potsdam University of Applied Sciences offers a unique opportunity to learn more about a course of study that embodies the interface between art, science and technology.
