Potsdam celebrates the grand reopening of the Park Babelsberg municipal swimming pool!
After almost two years of extensive renovation, there is great news from Potsdam: The Park Babelsberg public pool is open again! Mayor Burkhard Exner symbolically handed over the key to the newly designed lido on the banks of the Tiefen See. This reopening is not only a stroke of luck for the city residents, but also for the many visitors to the region, who can now once again enjoy the idyllic landscape of Babelsberg Park. The city pool is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has protected and valued Potsdam's cultural diversity since 1990, reports Borken newspaper.
The renovation was a small odyssey. Only an exchange of land with the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Berlin-Brandenburg Foundation made the necessary modernization possible. Thanks to an agreement between the Ministry of Culture, the foundation and the city, the historical circular route within the park could be restored, which really benefits the overall appearance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A sports club at the lake was also secured - so there is room for leisure and sports activities.
Ceremonial opening
The reopening of the city pool will be celebrated with a special event: On July 5th there will be an open day where visitors can enjoy free entry. The Park Babelsberg public pool is not only a place for swimming, but also a wonderful place to experience nature. Surrounded by almost 114 hectares of park space, which was designed by the garden artists Lenné and Fürst Pückler-Muskau, the park offers a hilly landscape with views of the Tiefen See, the Glienicke Bridge and the Hans Otto Theater, filled with the tranquil atmosphere of this majestic place.
Motorized vehicles are not allowed in the park, which further promotes peace and relaxation. Access is easy on foot, by bike or on inline skates, which makes the visit particularly inviting. Especially in summer, the park is a popular destination for those seeking relaxation who want to admire the beauty of the historic buildings, including Babelsberg Castle and the Small Castle SWP Potsdam reported.
A look at the UNESCO World Heritage Site
Potsdam has a long and exciting history that dates back to the 10th century, when the “Poztupimi” settlement site was first mentioned. The city played a central role in the 17th century, when Elector Friedrich Wilhelm began to develop the city into a residence. Potsdam's unique location, surrounded by waterways and rich in hunting grounds, was the key to its development as a "paradise", inspired by famous personalities such as Johann Moritz von Nassau-Siegen. This historically grown landscape was essentially continued into the 20th century and is still a recognized part of the UNESCO World Heritage, which includes the castles and gardens of Potsdam, according to information from Potsdam.de.
The reopening of the Park Babelsberg public pool will not only bring back an important social place, but will also further strengthen Potsdam's cultural heritage. The city is now once again presenting itself as a place of relaxation and nature - a real joy for locals and tourists alike.
