Potsdam is currently making a name for itself! At the international real estate trade fair EXPO REAL in Munich, the city presents itself as an up-and-coming science and innovation metropolis. With a clear vision, Potsdam aims to further expand its role as a knowledge location and provide new impetus for urban development. This development is underpinned in particular by the long-term planning of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), which is to be expanded into a leading center for digital sciences and artificial intelligence.
In the Bavarian capital, building councilor Bernd Rubelt presented current developments on October 6th in order to ignite a “science turbo”. Rubelt was particularly enthusiastic about the planned investments by the Hasso Plattner Foundation (HPF), which should significantly advance the city and the University of Potsdam. The focus is on the comprehensive expansion of the HPI at Griebnitzsee by 2035. According to the Development City we also know the details: The HPF will take over space used by the University of Potsdam and at the same time replacement space on the new Brauhausberg campus provide.
Potsdam as an innovation location
Potsdam is no stranger to science. With over 40 scientific institutions and 10,000 researchers, the city is a real center for creative thinking and research. The three innovation clusters - Life Sciences in Golm, Media and IT in Babelsberg and Climate and Earth Sciences on Telegraphenberg - contribute to the attractiveness and show why Potsdam is a hot tip on the science shopping street.
A special highlight at EXPO REAL was the RAW Creative Village, which is to be built at Potsdam Central Station. Office, catering and event rooms will be created on an area of 31,000 square meters, offering space for around 1,000 workstations. Here tradition combines with modernity and offers space for new ideas. The Krampnitz urban district, another architectural milestone, is being developed as a sustainable, car-poor district for up to 10,000 people. The elementary school, which has already been completed, has started operations and shows that life is not only being built here, but also life is being created.
Nationwide significance
The developments in Potsdam are also very popular at the state level. Prime Minister Dr. Dietmar Woidke highlights the importance of artificial intelligence for the future of the world of work and sees Potsdam as having the potential to become an international benchmark for modern research and teaching. The Hasso Plattner Foundation, together with the University of Potsdam, is becoming a beacon in the international scientific landscape, so the redesign of the two campuses is viewed as a win-win situation.
So it's a good thing that many interested visitors came to the joint Berlin-Brandenburg stand to exchange ideas and find out about the latest developments.
