Potsdam U14 water polo players: strong performance in the German Cup!
An impressive day for the U14 water polo players from SV Potsdam, who put in a strong performance at the German Cup. Coach Laube was able to praise not only the defensive stability, but also the quick switching game of his protégés, which contributed decisively to the success. Despite initial nervousness against SC Wasserfreunde Fulda, the team showed what it was capable of and was already leading 8-1 at halftime. Ultimately, they ended the game with a clear 15-4 win. The list of goalscorers against Fulda reads as follows: Jaroslav Buzhov (4), Joschua Schneider (3), Vincent Drescher (3), Oskar Kärgel, Anton Ottilie, Rafael Schmidt, Leo Harnisch and William Grässner were also able to get on the list of goalscorers.
In the following game against Wasserfreunde Spandau 04, which started after an exciting 3:3 score, the Potsdam team showed no weakness and ultimately won clearly with 15:7. Here again Buzhov stood out with 4 goals as well as Grässner and Drescher, who each scored 3 goals. The team set the final point in the last group game against SV Cannstatt, which they won 15:6. In this game, Buzhov shone again, scoring an impressive 6 goals, while Drescher and Schneider each contributed 3 goals and Grässner scored 2 goals.
Final round in effect
The team has therefore qualified for the final round, which will take place in four weeks at an as yet unknown location. The Potsdam team can be happy because they are the only team from the East regional group to have qualified for the best eight teams. This is particularly notable since the East only has one starting place for the German Championships. The qualified teams are: Potsdam, Post-SV Nürnberg, White Sharks Hannover, Düsseldorfer SC, HSC Hellas Hildesheim, SV Krefeld 72, Cannstatt and SGW Stadtwerke Munich.
The players at a glance
The team line-up that makes such successes possible is as follows: Erik Denkewitz and Alan Tokmöldin are in goal. The field players are Jaroslav Buzhov (14), Oskar Kärgel (3), Amos Langhof, Anton Ottilie (1), Rafael Schmidt (3), Nils Beilaev, Rafael Paul, Joschua Schneider (8), Leo Harnisch (1), William Grässner (6) and Vincent Drescher (9). With such team spirit and talent, one can only look forward to a bright future.
In addition to the sports landscape, the university city of Potsdam also has a lot to offer in university sports. SUNY Potsdam offers a total of 17 intercollegiate sports teams that proudly compete in maroon and gray. Whether it's basketball, ice hockey or swimming, the Potsdam Bears are active in the Division III SUNYAC and bring both sporting success and social cohesion to the community, for example by organizing basketball clinics for elementary school students.
The committed approach of the Potsdam water polo players and their many colleagues, be it in club or university sports, shows that the fight here is not just for titles, but also for promoting team spirit and community. Let's look forward to the challenges ahead and keep our fingers crossed for the U14 team for the final round!
