New small collection point in Pritzwalk: Waste acceptance becomes easier!

There is reason to be happy in Pritzwalk - the new small collection point is finally finished and will soon be officially opened. After a long six years of planning and an intensive year of construction, the building at Hermann-Graebke-Straße 5 in the Pritzwalker industrial area south is ready to offer citizens a modern contact point for waste. The striking building was inaugurated on June 10th, with some high-profile guests: District Administrator Christian Müller (SPD), Mayor Ronald Thiel and district council members were on site to celebrate this important step. The new drop-off location will open to the public on June 24 after the move from the old facility is complete.

The old small collection point, which had been in operation since 2000, had its best days behind it. The space was simply too small for the increasing amounts of waste, which repeatedly led to traffic jams. With the significant construction costs of around two million euros and a new area of 7,266 m², the new facility can now meet the challenges of the present and future. This is almost twice as much space as before and ensures improved delivery conditions.

What does the new facility offer?

The new small collection point impresses with modern technology and better conditions for disposal. This includes a drivable delivery ramp, a road vehicle scale and additional ground-level storage boxes for green waste and mineral waste. Citizens can hand in old electrical appliances, scrap, batteries, paper and cardboard free of charge. A fee is charged for green waste, building rubble, car tires and bulky waste. Payment can be made both in cash and by card.

Before the final commissioning, however, the move from the old to the new small acceptance point had to be organized. This presented a logistical challenge that had to be overcome. Despite difficulties such as material delays and weather problems, the companies involved, including Perleberger Tiefbau GmbH and BN Umwelt GmbH, did a good job. A good hand in planning was necessary here!

A look at the waste statistics

More and more waste is being disposed of properly in Germany. As current statistics show, deliveries in Pritzwalk rose from 5,878 in 2017 to an impressive 14,977 in 2023. This means the need for waste collection points is becoming increasingly clear. The Destatis also shows in its surveys that the handling of waste is becoming increasingly important. Promoting proper waste separation and disposal is essential to protecting the environment.

In summary, one can say that the new small collection point is not only an answer to the increased demand, but also a step towards sustainable waste management in the Pritzwalk region. Citizens can look forward to user-friendly conditions and thus actively help to protect our planet.
