Prignitz hairdressers conquer New York Fashion Week!

Things are happening in the hairdressing world! Three talented hairdressers from Prignitz – Peggy Kolbow and Britta Diete from Perleberg and Christin Schmeck from Bad Wilsnack – can look forward to an unforgettable adventure. They are part of the “Hairdressers Limitless” project and are traveling to Fashion Week in New York from September 10th to 16th. There they will style models for some of the most renowned designers, which is considered a major honor in the industry. This participation makes her the only representative from East Germany and one of a total of 23 hairdressers who were selected from Germany maz-online.de reported.

The role model and mentor is the British hairstylist Narad Kutowaroo, who intensively prepared the team for the challenges of the event in advance. “We are learning about speed and teamwork, and that is particularly important in the hectic environment of Fashion Week,” says Britta Diete full of anticipation. The training took place in their salon until the departure on September 9th, and the creative exchange will certainly not be neglected here.

Intensive preparation for the big event

However, getting to New York doesn't come for free. The hairdressers not only have to finance their own travel and accommodation, but also work hard for the event itself - without fees! Nevertheless, they are determined to take advantage of the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and make contacts in the fashion world, as tagesschau.de summarizes.

The styles they will learn are tailored specifically to runway hairstyles without offering haircuts. The expectations are high: techniques such as “beach waves” and elaborate braided hairstyles are on the program. This is not surprising, as Fashion Week in New York is considered one of the most important fashion events in the world and the competition is fierce.

The hairdressers report that they also want to explore New York a little during their stay as soon as they find time. For Britta Diete, who hasn't been in the city for 19 years, and the other two who have never been there, this is of course a unique opportunity. “I’m really looking forward to the experience and maybe I’ll see the results of our work in fashion magazines or on the catwalks,” says Peggy Kolbow, looking forward to the adventure ahead.

A look into the future of the industry

The “Limitless” project was launched by Hussein Saleh, Maher Aslan and Robert Zimmermann. It aims to enable smaller hairdressers to take part in such prestigious events - without any selection criteria, as tophair.de explains. The only requirement is passion for the craft. Within one day, 33 interested hairdressers came together through an open application process.

Gary Baker, Creative Director of New York Fashion Week, supported the project and prepared the team for the requirements in advance. This shows that the hairdressing profession should not only be more valued in society, but also that talent and commitment can open new doors.

The participating hairdressers then share insights and impressions from the turbulent world of Fashion Week in the press in order to inspire other interested parties. An event that is very popular and opens up exciting perspectives for the art of hairdressing!
