Pritzwalk takes over petting animal farm: New jobs in sight!
The city of Pritzwalk has made a decision that affects local animals: from December 1st, it will take over the popular petting animal farm in Hainholz. This step was originally only planned after the turn of the year, but the takeover is now happening faster than many thought. Pritzwalk already owns the land on which the farm stands. The operating association “Nature, Landscape and Monument Protection” (NDL) is withdrawing completely and has decided to dissolve the association because it is unable to continue operations. Despite numerous attempts to win new partners, these were unsuccessful, as maz-online.de reports.
The petting farm, which provides a home for almost 100 animals from around 20 species, including goats, Cameroon sheep, ferrets and many more, will in future be operated by the city administration. The focus is on local animal species. The responsible veterinary office is accompanying the discussions regarding the takeover and the future direction of the farm. In order to provide the necessary financial resources, 50,000 euros are earmarked in the city budget annually for the operation of the petting animal farm and the nature watch. However, these funds are only part of the funds required to maintain full operations.
Challenges in recruiting personnel
One of the biggest challenges for the city will be filling vacancies, as the farm will be looked after by employees and workers from the area of activation and integration measures (MAE). This search for personnel is proving difficult. One possible approach to solving the problem could be to create job opportunities for asylum seekers. This would not only be a support for the people who want to make a new start here, but also valuable help for the farm, which urgently needs staff.
The petting animal farm has an eventful history behind it. It was operated by the German Forest Protection Association (SDW) until 2013, before NDL took over responsibility. The animal farm was already threatened with closure in 2018, but this was averted. Now the city hopes to secure the farm's offerings and social commitment to the region while at the same time breaking new ground in animal husbandry.
The petting animal farm in focus
It remains exciting to see what new developments the petting animal farm will take under the sponsorship of the city of Pritzwalk. Citizens hope for a positive turnaround and a continuation of the popular destination for animal lovers and families. So while the city is working on solutions, public interest in this project is high. The challenges are great, as are the opportunities, and we can only hope that the new era of the petting animal farm will bring the desired success.
