Rekord-Trabi enthusiastic: 13 meters of Eastern Valley on the Perleberg airfield!

In the heart of the Prignitz, classic car dreams came true last weekend. At the meeting of classic car friends Perleberg, there was a spectacle that could not be forgotten so quickly. Over 400 historical vehicles gathered on a former airfield site, but All Eyes were aimed at a very special classic car: the longest sabant in the world, which measures proud 13.1 meters and shines in the colors blue, yellow and red. svz.de reports of the impressive presentation of this colossal small car, which was built in 1998 as part of a youth social project in Ludwigslust.

The Trabi, which is based on an original trabant P 601 from 1968, bears the classic two-stroke engine and has its difficulties on normal roads with a turning circle of over 41 meters. But that did not take care of the almost 400 participants who had traveled from all over Germany to admire the many classic cars. In addition to the record trabi, they were also able to marvel at wood-clad vehicles, the legendary duck, VW Beetle and even fire engines. Many participants even camped at the airfield and started the day with a hearty breakfast at 6 a.m.

a cult on four wheels

The Trabant is one of the most iconic cars of the GDR and has a long, eventful story. Originally, the name "Trabant" should indicate the superior technology of the GDR automotive industry, a term that means "companion". Mdr.de informs that the Trabant has been a reliable means of transportation since 1957, when the first version P50 was produced by the automotive works in Zwickau. However, the development stagnated from the 1970s at the latest because the SED government did not prioritize new models and investments in the automotive industry.

Despite its outdated technology with the environmentally harmful two-stroke engine, which led to high fuel consumption and considerable exhaust gas pollution, the Trabant remained the only car model with this motor until 1990. Among the so -called normal citizens in the GDR, the Trabant was widespread as such and in 1976 reached a market share of 47 % of all cars in the GDR. [Wikipedia explains] (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/trabant_ (car)) the symbolic role of the trabant, which was not only considered a car, but also as an expression of the lifestyle of the GDR residents.

together strong

The event in Perleberg was not only a feast for the eyes for classic car fans, but also led to the implementation of a place bet, in which 16 adults were also in a Trabi-a clear victory over the original bet of 11 people. The fun was not neglected when Jürgen Hannebauer, architect and vehicle designer, presented a special exhibition on the development of the Trabant. As the classic car friends emphasize, the commitment and discipline of the vehicle owner are crucial for the longevity and the preservation of such treasures.

This is how the Trabi remains, despite all the technical and political resistance, not just a classic car, but a symbol of the culture and attitude to life of the people from the GDR, which still makes many hearts beat faster today.
