Revolution in local transport: 16 e-buses for Dahme-Spreewald start!

A small revolution in bus traffic began on July 9, 2025 in the Dahme-Spreewald district. The regional transport company Dahme-Spreewald (RVS) has put 16 new electric buses into operation, which from then on will offer an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional diesel models. These buses that the renowned Chinese manufacturer B.Y.D. Coming, make our Austrian neighbors a little bit greener, are not only emission -free, but also offer space for up to 71 passengers. Get in and learn what these new vehicles have on the box!

The investment for the buses and their charging stations amounts to an impressive 11 million euros. In the meantime, both the Federal Ministry of Transport and the district have reached vigorously in their pockets in order to promote switching to clean traffic solutions. Almost 5.7 million euros came from the federal government as funding, while the district contributed its own 4.4 million euros. The great commitment to sustainable mobility shows that one million euros were also applied by the RVS itself. As [electrive.net] (https://www.electrive.net/2025/07/16-e-busse-von-yd-im-Landkreis-dahme-sprewald/), the charging infrastructure was also created in cooperation with the Finnish manufacturer Kempower.

technology and comfort at the latest stand

The new electric buses do not have to hide: With a range of up to 450 kilometers, you can drive for a whole day without reloading. Only two hours are necessary to recharge the buses at different outside temperatures. Compared to diesel buses, the new model series offers more space for wheelchairs and strollers, which significantly increases the comfort for students and movement -restricted passengers. A strong argument for switching to electric buses, especially at a time when CO2 emissions are increasingly in focus.

"Sustainability and the reduction of CO2 emissions are of the utmost importance for us," emphasizes District Administrator Sven Herzberger in an interview. Even if the new electric buses are an important step in the right direction, a challenge remains that is currently being considered. In parallel to the introduction of the e-buses, the district is investing in the renewal of its fleet, in which 16 new diesel overland buses are financed by MAN. Thus, around 20 percent of the RVS fleet was modernized, which gives public transport a fresh wind.

A look at electromobility in Germany

The step of the RVS is part of a larger trend that can be observed nationwide. Statements by enbw.com show that more and more transport companies in Germany are currently relying on hybrid and electric buses. As of December 2022, these vehicles made up around 2.4 percent of the total bus fleet. Around 1,884 electrified buses are currently on the road in Germany, with most of them being battery operations. By 2030, many companies plan to significantly increase the number of electric buses.

The signs are good for the future of electromobility in public transport. Even if electrical buses are more expensive to buy than their diesel -powered counterparts, the political framework is now the case that there is a broad support for switching. From purchase bonuses to grants - the government does a lot to promote the turnaround.

With the commissioning of these 16 new electric buses, a new era begins in Dahme-Spreewald, which is not only more environmentally friendly, but also more comfortable. Rumors about alternative drives and innovative solutions are processed by this step into reality, and we can look forward to further developments in the region.
