Shocking accident in Prignitz: Three dead after Crash on B189!

On Saturday, July 6, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on the main road between Perleberg and Weisen in Prignitz, Brandenburg, in which three people lost their lives. As reported Tagesschau, five vehicles were involved in the accident: a truck, a van, two passenger cars and a motorcycle. The exact circumstances of the accident have so far been unclear, and the investigation by the Neuruppin public prosecutor, who commissioned an accident report, are underway. The accident caused the B189 to be completely blocked, and this will probably remain so on Sunday.

Among the fatalities are two men and one woman. No further details on the injured are not known. The scope of this incident again raises questions about traffic safety in Brandenburg. Figures from April 2025 show a decline in the total number of traffic accidents by 1.7 %, but the number of accidents with personal loss rose by 1.4 % to 779 and the number of victims to a total of 1,005 people - an increase of 37 injuries compared to the previous year. In this context it should be mentioned that there were 12 fatal traffic accidents in April 2025, which is four more than in the same month 2024, according to the Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg.

A look back at 2023

in 2023 Brandenburg was able to record the lowest value in the history of the state with 108 road dead. This is four less than in 2022. While the number of traffic accidents rose by 3.5 % to 74,037, there was also an increase in the injured by 3.3 % to 10,923. It is particularly alarming that more than half of the traffic fatalities died on country roads, the police Brandenburg announced. The main causes of the accident are often clear - the non -compliance with the safety distance, excessive speed and accommodation are at the top of the statistics.

In order to further improve traffic safety, the country not only plans measures such as the use of turning assistance systems in over 65 % of the vehicles of the State Business Roads, but also reconnaissance campaigns such as "Better to live.". These initiatives are part of the new traffic safety program, which is valid until 2034 and is to be continued in 2024. An additional offer is the "Fifty-Fifty-Taxi-Brandenburg" app, which serves safer home trips after celebrations.

The current events underline how important it is to continue to pay attention to traffic safety and take preventive measures. Hope is great that the number of traffic accidents and especially serious injuries and dead can be reduced by education and new technologies.
