Deutsche Bahn strengthens Lausitz: takeover of the LEAG training workshop!
Deutsche Bahn AG has taken a significant step towards supporting young people in the Lausitz region. Today the LEAG training workshop in Jänschwalde, Brandenburg, was officially taken over. This was marked by a ceremonial handover of the keys by Martin Seiler, DB's human resources director, and Jörg Waniek, LEAG's labor director. This means that over 300 trainees will have a permanent new place to realize their professional dreams.
With this takeover, the number of trainees will continue to increase in the coming years: an increase to 310 is already planned for 2024 and to 350 trainees by 2027. The DB will focus on training electronics engineers, mechatronics engineers and industrial mechanics, who are primarily needed for the ICE plant in Cottbus. “We are doing good business for training in the region and at the same time strengthening nationwide reporting on training opportunities,” explained Seiler during the handover.
An important step for the region
The takeover is part of a cooperation agreement between DB and LEAG that was concluded in 2020. This partnership aims to contribute to structural development in Lusatia. With the new training facility covering more than 5,700 square meters, it is the largest of its kind in the area. Deutsche Bahn plans to employ around 5,200 new trainees and dual students nationwide in 2026 and thus offer a wide range of training occupations.
- 50 Ausbildungsberufe
- 25 duale Studiengänge
This is great news for anyone interested in training in technical professions. Applications for the start of training in autumn 2024 are already possible, and DB has also planned to train trainees from other companies. “Young talents are the backbone of our industry, and we have a good knack for promoting them,” emphasized Seiler.
A look at the future
In today's world, when career prospects are particularly important for young people, DB's new training workshop not only offers a job, but also opportunities for a promising future. This initiative shows how companies can take responsibility to train and integrate the next generation of skilled workers.
A side joke: As the stars say, Gemini Gemini are known for their humor and communication skills. Perhaps the youthful energy that DB invests in training also brings with it a dose of the winking qualities that Gemini is so famous for. It remains to be seen whether the trainees will have as much fun in the workshop!
Overall, it can be said that DB is taking an important step in the right direction with the takeover of the LEAG training workshop: digitalization, technological advances and the associated training positions are essential for a sustainable society.
