Gondula Award 2025: Child protection heroes honored in Lusatia!

On November 3rd, 2025, the Gondula Award 2025 was presented at the Kammerbühne Cottbus, an important event dedicated to child protection in Lusatia. This event, which took place as part of the 35th FilmFestival Cottbus, put the spotlight on the “silent heroes of child protection” and honored committed projects that support children and young people in difficult life situations. A musical accompaniment, including the Cottbus children's musical and the violinist Anke Wingrich with the hymn “Children should live”, gave the award ceremony a celebratory setting.

A total of 30,000 euros in prize money was awarded, which was made possible by numerous donations and sponsors, such as the Großes Waisenhaus zu Potsdam Foundation and the EDEKA Center Scholz. The latter presented a 2,000 euro donation check during the event, underlining the importance of local support for such initiatives.

The award winners in focus

The big winner of the evening was the Blue Cross's Drachenherz Spremberg project, which was awarded 14,500 euros for its valuable work to support children from families suffering from addiction. Second place went to the MUKS (TAEGUK e.V. Cottbus) project, which offers early childhood support and social skills training for children aged 4 to 8 and was awarded 7,000 euros. It was closely followed by the MiA Girls project of the Cottbus Women's Center, which received 4,500 euros for its contact point for young women and girls in the event of sexual violence. EREBOS e.V. from Trattendorf/Sellessen, which runs integrative youth clubs, was also pleased to receive 4,000 euros.

A commitment to the future

The Gondula Award, which was launched in 2023 and is named after the “Gondula” plush card, represents a carefree childhood and hope for a better future for children in the region. Initiator Martin Student emphasizes the importance of supporting voluntary initiatives in child protection in order to promote children's health, prevent violence and combat poverty. Proposals for regional projects can be submitted until July 25, 2025, which enables an active contribution to improving the living situation of children and young people.
