Child Protection Week in Cottbus: Workshops for healthy children's souls!
The anticipation for the first child protection week of the SOS Children's Village Lausitz is increasing! From October 13th to 17th, a whole range of workshops and offers for specialists, parents and children will be offered in Cottbus and the Spree-Neiße district. The aim is to increase children's sensitivity to signs of insecurity or stress. Facility manager Anke Lorenz emphasizes how important it is to listen to children and to recognize early on the signs that often remain hidden.
A total of 26 different workshops are on the program. These cover important topics that are of great importance for children's well-being. Parents and professionals can use offers such as “Warm milk with honey for the child’s soul” or “I saw something on TikTok – what about AI?” learn how to better support children. The topic of mental health is also discussed frequently.
Community engagement
Participation in these workshops is not only limited to SOS Children's Village facilities. Institutions involved include the “Spreepiraten” daycare center, the Klein Döbbern daycare center, school social work at the Forst high school as well as the youth club at the Sachsendorf high school and the supervised “Pirate Island Rabauki” playground. This broad community work impressively shows how important child protection is in the region.
A ceremonial opening is not planned; Child Protection Week starts directly on Monday. The final discussion for the specialists will allow them to reflect on their impressions of the week and develop suggestions for improvement. Because, as Anke Lorenz aptly puts it, child protection remains an ongoing task.
Media literacy in focus
Another major concern of SOS Children's Villages is the training series on media education in the youth sector. This is also supported by SOS Kinderdorf e.V. and is specially designed for multipliers from different institutions. This is about the targeted teaching of media skills and the confident use of digital media. The content ranges from the use of media in everyday life to practical methods and tools that help educational professionals accompany young people in the digital world.
The training series includes three face-to-face modules and has already received great response. Multipliers should not only be informed, but also actively promote the topic and advance the challenges and potential of digitalization in their institutions. This ensures that children and young people are best prepared for the demands of the modern world. For further information about registration and the workshop content, all necessary details are available online.
