Kolkwitz and Drebkau start training fair – future for young people!
On July 15, 2025, the municipality of Kolkwitz and the city of Drebkau presented a significant step towards a professional future: the two municipalities signed a cooperation agreement to hold a joint training fair. This will take place for the first time on January 29, 2026 on the school grounds of the Spree-Neiße comprehensive school at Annahofer Graben and will be organized annually in the future niederlausitz-aktuell.de reported.
The aim of the trade fair is to offer regional and smaller companies a platform to present their training offers. The aim is to bring together students, parents, teachers and local companies. The Spree-Neiße district supports this project, which aims to sustainably improve training and labor market opportunities in the region.
Strengthening the comprehensive school as a place of education
The focus is on the long-term nature of the initiative: the aim is to establish the Spree-Neiße comprehensive school as an important educational and meeting place. Mayor Karsten Schreiber von Kolkwitz and his Drebkau counterpart Paul Köhne underline the importance of this initiative in their statements. They see the training fair as a bridge between school education and professional practice, which should make it easier for young people to make an informed decision about their professional future.
An additional digital component is offered: Students can already discover training opportunities via the online portal www.lausitz-jobs.de, which should usefully complement the upcoming trade fair. This creates additional, modern access to information that could reach more students.
Regional cooperation for tomorrow's skilled workers
The training fair is part of a larger initiative to strengthen the regional economy and improve local career prospects, as wirtschaft-lausitz.de emphasizes. Small and medium-sized companies in particular are invited to present their attractive training offers and to get in direct contact with future trainees.
A look outside the box shows how such events are also gaining a foothold in other regions: in April 2025, the largest training fair took place in Bruchsal, where over 70 exhibitors presented around 450 apprenticeships and study programs. A personal exchange between trainees and training companies, supported by career advice, ensured great interest among young people and families from the region [wfg-bruchsal.de].
The upcoming training fair in Kolkwitz and Drebkau could therefore be a success if it offers the right incentives to get young people interested in the diverse training careers in the region.
