MINT education: Brandenburg cooperation ensures future opportunities!
MINT education: Brandenburg cooperation ensures future opportunities!
In an exciting development for the promotion of MINT formation (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has extended cooperation with the Blis e.V. by five years. Education Minister Steffen Freiberg and club chairman Uwe Toman signed the corresponding cooperation agreement on July 10, 2025. The aim of this initiative is to arouse and promote the interests of pupils in MINT subjects, and this from the earliest education.
Blis e.V., the state association for the promotion of mathematical and scientific-technically interested students, has already supported thousands of students in the past 35 years and has continuously celebrated success. Since 1990 alone, Brandenburg students have won numerous medals at various international and federal competitions, including:

Around 20 % of the students show special performance potential - and of them about 2 % of highly gifted. This shows how important it is to motivate and promote talented young people through competitions and seminars to get the best out of their skills.
action plan for MINT formation
The MINT action plan 2.0 of the BMBF pursues a comprehensive concept for promoting MINT skills through the various educational levels. The focus ranges from early childhood education to university and for vocational training. Targeted measures are implemented in five fields of action:
- Cooperation@MINT: Cooperation between school and extra -curricular activities.
- Quality@MINT: Support for high-quality MINT training offers.
- Families@MINT: Parents are included in the MINT formation of their children.
- research@mint: Promotion of practice-oriented research for MINT formation.
- Frühstart@MINT: Offers for MINT formation in daycare centers and primary schools.
The communication offensive #MINT magic, which is aimed specifically at children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 16, is also remarkable.
women in the MINT area
There is also special attention to the promotion of women in MINT courses and appointed. The proportion of women among new students in MINT subjects rose from 31 % in 2002 to 35 % in 2022, but there is still a lot to do, especially in top positions. Initiatives such as ** Girls' Day ** and ** Missionmint ** are committed to reducing gender -specific clichés and presenting strong female role models in MINT.
Companies such as the IU International University, for example, launched the “Women in Tech” campaign to promote girls and women, especially in the MINT area. The “Frida” project and numerous seminar offers are offered to sensitize a general public to IT and MINT. The IU itself has over 100,000 students and offers numerous courses in these areas to train a new generation of MINT experts.
Overall, the MINT formation therefore has a promising potential for the future of our society. But every commitment counts in order not only to recognize the upcoming talents, but also to promote targeted. Cityreport reports on the latest developments, while the bmbf is still a leader in the design of a contemporary educational framework. The iu International University contributes to the design of the next MINT generation.
