The anticipation in Spremberg is increasing! Next Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Spremberg Hospital invites you to the 14th Spremberg Diabetes Day and Autumn Run. These two events not only offer a great opportunity for exchange, but also exciting information on the topic of diabetes.

Diabetes Day begins at 8:00 a.m. in the Hospital cafeteria. There are various topics during the day, including lay resuscitation and living with diabetes in a relationship. Patients, relatives and interested parties are cordially invited to find out more about this important aspect of health. There will also be company presentations and information stands on site that offer valuable insights.

The autumn run: something for everyone

The autumn run starts at 3:00 p.m. at the canoe boathouse at Weißen Wehr 1. Here, participants have the opportunity to try their hand at two distances: either 5 kilometers or 800 meters. No matter whether you want to run, walk or take a leisurely stroll, being there is everything! Anyone can take part, even with a walker, wheelchair or stroller. Part of the event is that points are awarded and the awards ceremony rounds everything off at around 4:30 p.m. Various categories such as “school/after-school care center”, “daycare center” and “best group” ensure a lively competition.

Important information about diabetes prevention

As the German Diabetes Society According to reports, almost 9 million people in Germany are affected by diabetes. In addition, around 1,000 new cases are diagnosed every day. The events place a particular focus on the prevention and effective treatment of diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, which affects over 95 percent of patients. Risk factors such as obesity and lack of exercise are often at the forefront, and Diabetes Day represents an excellent opportunity to raise awareness.

In the past, Spremberg Hospital has distinguished itself as a suitable clinic for diabetes patients through certification from the German Diabetes Society. It was also named one of the best hospitals in Germany in 2025 in a study by the F.A.Z. Institute, clear evidence of the quality of care on site.

On October 15th there will also be a specialist lecture by Olga Schiffer (M.Sc., DESA), the chief physician for pain medicine, in the cafeteria. There are further important insights into medical care here.
