On June 16, 2025, Dr. Margitta-Sabine Haase was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg at a ceremony in the Potsdam State Chancellery. Prime Minister Dr. Dietmar Woidke honored the committed citizen for her outstanding achievements in the voluntary sector in Brandenburg, as the city of Luckenwalde reports on its website. This award is a symbol of appreciation for people who work tirelessly to serve the well-being of the country.
Mayor Elisabeth Herzog-von der Heide had Dr. Haase suggested, which underscores the value of her work. The chairwoman of the Jakobikirche support association. V. was fully committed to saving the Jakobikirche in Luckenwalde, which was about to be closed. This impressive church, which with its 72 meter high tower is the largest of three Protestant churches in the city, is a true jewel, characterized by numerous artistically valuable leaded glass windows from the 19th century.
Volunteering in Luckenwalde
Dr. Haase founded the support association on November 27, 2006 to ensure the renovation and preservation of the Jakobikirche. Under her leadership, the association grew to a proud 50 members, who work together in a unique alliance of believing Christians and atheist local patriots. This special community is led by Dr. Fostered by team spirit and togetherness, Haase has developed into becoming experts in various areas such as church history, crafts and archiving.
In recent years, Dr. Haase organized numerous events with well-known artists in the Jakobikirche and raised funding amounting to several hundred thousand euros for the necessary renovation measures. The work carried out includes the renovation of the gallery, the installation of heating and the renovation of the sacristy, which have now been completed. The club members are particularly proud that the renovation of the five large window groups was completed in time for the church's 125th anniversary in 2019.
Recognition for outstanding achievements
Dr. Haase's commitment is not just limited to the club. She has been elected to the Luckenwalde city council four times since 2003, where her business expertise is valued. She is also chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Luckenwalde municipal works and a member of the finance committee, which further underlines her active contribution to municipal development.
This award is another highlight of her already aspired career, which also includes numerous previous honors, such as the monument award from the Teltow-Fläming district in 2009 and the certificate of recognition for the support association in 2014 for civic engagement. All of this clearly shows how important volunteer work is for social cohesion, something that Prime Minister Woidke impressively expressed with his award. The commitment of Dr. Haase is seen as an inspiration who should also motivate others to stand up for their community.
