First Christopher Street Day in Luckenwalde: Diversity celebrates on July 12th!
A very special event will be celebrated in the Teltow-Fläming district on July 12, 2025: the first Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Luckenwalde. The motto of the event is “Let it sparkle!” and sends a strong signal for diversity and against queer hostility in rural areas. The aim of the event is to provide a platform on which people can stand up for their rights and demonstrate against discrimination. On June 25th, a rainbow flag was hoisted in front of the district headquarters to symbolize the start of Pride Month, which stands for a colorful and tolerant society worldwide, but also expresses protest against discrimination. Information on this is provided by zossen.de.
What lies ahead in this radiant sign of diversity? The demonstration train begins at 1 p.m. at Luckenwalde train station and moves to the district hall. At 3 p.m. the CSD joins the E-WERK Luckenwalde summer festival on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße. Wherever you look, there is a diverse musical and artistic program on two stages. Live music of all genres and exciting workshops, from karaoke to DJ music in the E-Werk, ensure a great atmosphere.
Diversity through participation
The CSD event is prepared on a voluntary basis by a dedicated organizational team of queer people and allies. The event is supported, among others, by the Equal Opportunities and Integration Officer Romy Powils and the Teltow-Fläming District Children and Youth Ring e. V. (KKJR). The funding also takes place as part of the federal program “Living Democracy!” of the Federal Ministry for Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
But it's not just in Luckenwalde that the celebrations take place. The CSD has a tradition in Brandenburg. Other CSDs that will take place in 2025 include:
- **31. Mai:** CSD in Rheinsberg – Motto: „Tanz in den Pride“
- **21. Juni:** CSD in Eberswalde – Motto: „Wir sind da, solidarisch, bunt und wunderbar“
- **5. Juli:** CSD in Falkensee – Motto: „Vielfalt vereint!“
- **12. Juli:** CSD in Bad Belzig und mehreren anderen Orten
- **9. August:** CSD in Ludwigsfelde
These large, colorful demonstrations show that the CSDs are also very popular in smaller cities and rural areas. maz-online.de has created an overview of the various events.
A piece of history
CSDs are not only celebrations of joy, but also deeply rooted in the history of the LGBTQ+ movement. The first CSD in Berlin took place in 1979, and its roots go back to the Stonewall riots in New York in 1969, which marked a turning point in the emancipation of the queer community. The atmosphere during the uprisings was characterized by protests against systematic discrimination and the fight for equal rights. It is repeatedly emphasized that despite all the progress, the political content and visibility of the community remain important today, as bpb.de shows.
So, dear readers, the CSD in Luckenwalde promises to be not only a celebration of diversity, but also an important platform for fighting for equality and against discrimination. Come in large numbers and let it glitter!
