New playground in Felgentreu: A celebration for the village community!
Today, June 29, 2025, a redesigned playground was ceremoniously opened in Felgentreu. After months of planning and preparation, the playground now shines in new splendor, which was celebrated with a big ceremony. The aim of the redesign was to transform the playground, which had previously been rated as “poor”, into a showcase project for exemplary commitment. Mayor Stefan Scheddin, the mayor Romy Lindner and the head of SIK-Holz, Marc Oelker, praised the successful implementation and the great result during the opening. The two 12-year-old rim faithful Marlon and Dominik were allowed to cut the symbolic ribbon, which was an emotional moment for many in attendance, especially during the celebrations for the place's 80th anniversary.
The redesign was supported by a MAZ survey in which readers were able to vote on which playground in the Felgentreu area needed the highest priority for a refresh. Together with the employees of SIK-Holz and the village community, ideas were then collected to design the new playground. SIK-Holz was not only responsible for the design, but also generously sponsored and helped build the new play equipment, which further strengthens the local community.
A concept with vision
The new playground is not only a place to play, but also combines elements of sustainability. More and more communities are realizing that thoughtful playground design not only provides entertainment, but also helps promote environmental awareness. The focus is on sustainable materials and ecologically responsible play equipment. According to experts from Bilche wildlife station Natural materials such as wood from sustainable forestry and recycled materials are essential to minimize environmental impact and ensure children's health.
The new play equipment in the Felgentreuer playground is intended to promote children's creativity and motor skills. Barrier-free access and well-thought-out layouts ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities, get what they deserve. Such measures are also part of a larger trend in playground design that aims to strengthen communities through play spaces and encourage contact with nature.
Another example from Brandenburg
A similar concept was recently implemented in Welzow, Brandenburg. A newly designed playground opened there, which not only serves as entertainment, but also focuses on the history of brown coal mining. The children can play on a winding tower and playfully explore the historical elements of the region. This square was designed with the aim of promoting awareness of local history and giving the community an identity. QR codes on the devices also enable interactive experiences that give children a lively understanding of the transition from fossil-fuelled forms of industry to renewable energies. Sik wood reports that such playgrounds cleverly combine educational and entertainment elements and thus promote children's development.
The construction of these new playgrounds shows that it is possible to convey environmental awareness and historical education through play. With such initiatives, the community not only receives new recreational spaces, but also a place where children can learn and grow.
In Felgentreu and other communities it is clear that the redesign of playgrounds goes far beyond simply upgrading with new equipment. It is a comprehensive strategy to promote quality of life and create a positive environment for future generations.
