Cyclists in Teltow-Fläming: Five deaths and a new cycle path in sight!

In the districts of Teltow-Fläming and Dahme-Spreewald, cyclists increasingly have to fear for their safety. Four cyclists have already died in traffic accidents in 2025, highlighting the alarming conditions on the roads. How maz-online.de reported, high traffic densities and inadequate infrastructure, such as a lack of cycle paths, are not unrelated to the number of accidents. The ADFC cycling club and local initiatives are committed to creating safe cycle paths, but many of their efforts remain unsuccessful. The new cycle path on the L402 in Zeuthen is a bright spot, but these positive developments are currently rare.

However, there is hope with regard to future cycle path planning: a cycle path along the L80 near Luckenwalde is planned for 2026. This measure could significantly improve the situation for cyclists in the region and create a little more safety.

Current developments and challenges surrounding BER

There are also movements to report in the aviation industry. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), which opened on October 31, 2020, has made progress in recent years but continues to struggle with financial challenges. Loud maz-online.de Berlin and Brandenburg must provide further subsidies until 2024 in order to cover the bills. Although the economic growth is positive, the high construction costs put a considerable strain on the coffers.

Another incident at the airport is causing a stir: taxi drivers refused to take passengers to Eichwalde and Rangsdorf at night. This led to turmoil as passengers rely on taxis, especially at night when there are no buses running. The airport company has condemned the incident and advises taking note of taxi license plates to avoid such situations.

Naturalization and change of leadership in Zossen

There is also a change in administration in the city of Zossen: Jörn Perlick took over the position of treasurer on November 1, 2025, replacing Jan Krolik, who will continue to work as managing director of the Zossen housing association. This change brings a breath of fresh air to local politics and could also encourage new approaches throughout the community.

Furthermore, the naturalization of 17 people in Teltow-Fläming will be celebrated, including the Stojanovic family. This new, vibrant multicultural enrichment was recognized with a public event, with the naturalization process taking over three years. Such celebratory occasions strengthen the sense of community in the region.

Cycling conditions in German cities

adfc.de beschrieben, gilt die Sicherheit von Radfahrenden in deutschen Städten als verbesserungswürdig. Besonders in Städten wie Köln und Berlin schätzen weniger als die Hälfte der Befragten die Radwege als sicher ein.

While 62 percent of cyclists in Munich can give a positive safety assessment, this is still a long way off in many major German cities. In addition, around 60 percent of those surveyed support a speed limit of 30 km/h in city centers and 70 percent are in favor of a 0 alcohol limit when driving. A clear signal to decision-makers that structural improvements in cycling are urgently needed.
