Runoff election in Jüterbog: Who will be the new mayor?
Next Sunday, July 20, 2025, the decisive runoff election for the new mayor will take place in Jüterbog. Two independent candidates are competing against each other: Sabrina Dimde and Christiane Lindner-Klopsch. Both came close in the first round of voting, with Dimde coming out on top with 30.6% (1,676 votes), while Lindner-Klopsch only received 70 fewer votes. The third candidate, Tilman Weber, followed closely behind with 29.1%. All eyes are now on the approximately 10,500 citizens eligible to vote who have to decide on the successor to the controversial AfD politician Arne Raue, who has led the city for years and recently made polarizing decisions. As rbb24.de reports, this election will represent much more than just a preliminary decision about the future administration of Jüterbog.
The two candidates bring very different approaches to the election. Sabrina Dimde, born in Luckenwalde and raised in Jüterbog, has considerable administrative experience - she worked, among other things, in the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction. According to maz-online.de, she describes herself as a “candidate for all” and emphasizes how important it is to take the needs of citizens into account in city administration decisions. Dimde plans to reactivate the Schauburg as a youth center and would like to talk to students and young people to find out their wishes and needs.
The vision of Dimde and Lindner-Klopsch
Dimde also shows a great interest in improving communication between the city administration and citizens. Their approach includes regular consultation hours in the districts, the creation of information events and a digital newsletter to strengthen understanding of city decisions. Her vision extends to the old town, where she sees potential for new uses, such as pop-up stores and coworking spaces. Social issues are just as important to her: Dimde calls for closer cooperation between the city, business, clubs and schools in order to link social and economic perspectives.
Christiane Lindner-Klopsch, on the other hand, looks back on a different kind of experience. As acting mayor and former deputy of Raue, she claims to be “the right person for Jüterbog”. Her position and experience in city administration could give her a boost to perhaps win the decisive votes in the race for mayor.
Both candidates promise a rethink in the city administration and have promised citizens changes. But which of the two can ultimately win the majority of votes will be shown on Sunday.
The elections in Jüterbog are exciting and a decision that will be important not only for the coming years, but also for the future development of the city. On average, such a race would not attract much attention outside the city, but the political circumstances and the close starting position make this mayoral election particularly explosive.
