Dispute over water rights: Baruth under pressure because of secret contracts!
The dispute over water rights in Baruth/Mark is taking a new turn. The platform Ask the state recently filed a lawsuit against the city of Baruth. The reason? Secret water contracts with big companies like Red Bull and Rauch. These were submitted to the Potsdam Administrative Court at the end of October and aim to disclose the water contracts in accordance with the Environmental Information Act (UIG).
It's a significant amount of water: around 2.35 million cubic meters annually, which accounts for a whopping 92 percent of the city's production volume. Only 204,000 cubic meters remain in the regional drinking water supply. Critics argue that the public is being left in the dark about the conditions of water extraction. Mayor Peter Ilk, on the other hand, emphasizes the sustainable use of local resources.
Water protection and transparency
The discussion about water extraction is further fueled by planned expansions of factories in water protection areas. The city, however, refuses to release the contracts, citing company and business secrets. Alliance 90/The Greens supports the lawsuit brought by Ask the State and calls for more transparency in this explosive case. Andrea Lübcke, the state chairwoman of the Green Party, has already called for a public debate about the effects of large-scale industrial water withdrawals.
The situation in Baruth could have far-reaching consequences for the region, especially given the global discussion about water resources and their sustainable use. Awareness of the importance of water is constantly increasing, making the lawsuit all the more relevant.
Creative digital experiences
Players will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in environments inspired by the history of Cirque du Soleil. The games refer to the shows “Luzia” and another that has not yet been announced. The interactive experiences are designed to capture the emotional depth and splendor of a live show and introduce exclusive digital collectibles and Cirque du Soleil-themed avatars. Noah Lemieux Bernier, VP Digital and Customer Experience at Cirque du Soleil, is excited about the creative possibilities of this collaboration.
Details of this exciting partnership were presented during a keynote session at NFT.NYC, which also included a short live performance. The Sandbox's CEO Arthur Madrid highlighted the importance of this collaboration for immersive narratives.
Whether it's about the future of our water or exciting digital experiences, one thing is clear: the world keeps turning and there are plenty of topics to provoke thought and captivate the public.
