Election forum in Luckenwalde: All candidates introduce themselves!

A new town hall boss will be elected in Luckenwalde on Sunday, September 28th. This date is inexorably approaching and is causing great interest among citizens. The< a href="https://www.maz-online.de/lokales/teltow-flaeming/luckenwalde/buergermeisterwahl-luckenwalde-maz-wahlfor um-im-livestream-mit-roth-grunert-menzel-teichert-klaps-QTQ5SZ3DZVHNPDANGXHTKCG2QA.html?outputType=valid_amp"> Märkische Allgemeine and the structural and economic development company of the Teltow-Fläming district have launched an election forum to offer the eight candidates a platform. This MAZ talk will take place today, August 28th, at 6 p.m. in the Communication Center in the Luckenwalde Biotechnology Park and will be broadcast live.

All candidates are ready to answer questions from moderators Nadine Pensold and Josefine Sack. Citizens can also submit questions in order to actively participate in political events. The candidates are:

  • Gordon Roth (GfL)

  • Felix Menzel (CDU)
  • Andreas Teichert (parteilos)
  • Jan-Hendrik Klaps (AfD)
  • Sven Eppinger (parteilos)
  • Jochen Neumann (parteilos)
  • Olaf Wendel (parteilos)

There were a total of eight nominations. These were examined by the Electoral Commission on July 28, 2025 and fortunately no deficiencies were found. The submission deadline is July 24, 2025 at 12 p.m. and candidates will compete in the following order:

Place candidate
1. Gordon Roth (GfL)

3. Felix Menzel (CDU)
4. Andreas Teichert (individual nomination)
5. Jan-Hendrik Klaps (AfD)
6. Sven Eppinger (individual nomination)
7. Jochen Neumann (individual nomination)
8. Olaf Wendel (individual nomination)

As is usual in local elections, a candidate is elected if he or she receives more than half of the valid votes, whereby this majority must include at least 15 percent of those eligible to vote. Around 17,100 people are eligible to vote in Luckenwalde, which means around 2,565 votes are needed for a clear victory. If this value is not reached, there will be a runoff election on October 19, 2025.

Political system and voter turnout

The mayoral election is part of the municipal electoral system in Germany, which is regulated in Article 28 of the Basic Law. The principles of general, free and secret elections are of central importance here. In contrast to federal or state elections, voter turnout in local elections is often lower, not least because of the complex local election events. Political voter communities are also on the ticket, which promises a diversity of opinions and solutions.

With the upcoming election and everything at stake in Luckenwalde, it remains exciting to see which candidate will win the race. The diversity and committed participation of the candidates testify to a lively political landscape in which citizens can actively help shape. Your votes are needed here – and the election time has come!
