13 projects in the Uckermark: Successful funding with 105,000 euros!

Remarkable changes will take place in the heart of the Uckermark in 2024. The Local Working Group (LAG) Uckermark has launched a regional budget that enables small projects to receive a financial injection. How Northern Courier reported, 27 projects applied for future subsidies, 13 of which ultimately received the green light. A total of an impressive 105,000 euros was made available to transform local ideas into actions.

This funding not only represents financial relief, but also a great opportunity for volunteer work in the region. The smallest of the supported initiatives involved a project worth 5,500 euros, while the largest project was worth 11,380 euros. The results presented at the final meeting in the Dominican monastery in Prenzlau impressively demonstrated how important such funding is for the local community.

An important step for the region

Volunteer mayors such as Hardy Müller and Daniel Manke emphasized the importance of the regional budget. They emphasized that this support makes it possible to realize creative and necessary ideas. Sylvia Klingbeil, chairwoman of the LAG Uckermark, made it clear: “This small-scale funding is crucial not only to support but also to strengthen voluntary initiatives.” The LAG acts as a central point for taking on all administrative tasks, so that the projects can be implemented more easily. LAG Uckermark has taken on a task that previously often represented a challenge for many municipalities: it fills the gap that many municipalities find themselves in due to a lack of funds.

The intended goal of the regional budget is not only to support individual projects, but also to support independent development in rural areas. Over 50 applications have already been received for the upcoming 2025 regional budget, with investment ideas able to be submitted until October 26th. In the Uckermark, this shows that civic engagement is very popular and creative minds are prepared to take on responsibility.

A large framework for rural development

But that's not all! The federal program for rural development and regional value creation (BULEplus) aims to design rural regions as dynamic laboratories for the future. Like that Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture represents, it is about creating new perspectives for rural development through research and model projects. This is the only way to ensure that equal living conditions continue to be promoted in Germany.

A lively exchange of experiences and concrete model projects help to develop outstanding solutions. This includes significant support for associations and local initiatives that promote social cohesion and change in village communities. The Uckermark makes a small but significant contribution to this with its regional budget.

Overall, it shows that the Uckermark is well on the way to actively shaping life and community in rural areas. If that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what will!
