Pressure on Schwesig: SPD candidates fear re-election in Western Pomerania!
In less than a year, more precisely in September 2026, the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are on the agenda. At the moment, however, things are already simmering in the political landscape, especially in the SPD. According to that Uckermark courier According to surveys, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is facing noticeable pressure. Uncertainty about the re-election of its candidates from Western Pomerania-Greifswald is growing, which is putting the party under additional stress.
As things stand, the major parties have already drawn up their lists for the five constituencies in the district. What is particularly noticeable is that the SPD is sticking to the proven candidates from 2021. The minds behind the constituencies are:
- Christian Pegel (Wahlkreis 1, Greifswald) tritt gegen Torsten Heil (CDU) und Kevin Kurtze (AFD) an.
- Bettina Martin (Wahlkreis 36, Pasewalk) steht Nikolaus Kramer (AFD) und Sandra Nachtweih (CDU) gegenüber.
- Patrick Dahlemann (Wahlkreis 35, Ueckermünde, Torgelow) sieht sich mit Inken Arndt (AFD) und Ivo Sieder (CDU) konfrontiert.
- Marcel Falk (Wahlkreis 29, Anklam) hat Kai Dröse (CDU) und Jens-Schulze Wiehenbrauk (AFD) als Gegner.
- Falko Beitz (Wahlkreis 30, Usedom) tritt gegen Jeannette von Busse (CDU) und Stephan Reuken an.
The polls show that the SPD may have difficulty defending all direct mandates. However, Erik von Malottki, the SPD district chairman, remains optimistic and believes in the chances of his candidates in Western Pomerania. It is noteworthy, however, that von Malottki himself will not be running in the district election in Western Pomerania, but in Neubrandenburg. This strategic decision could prove wise as expectations for his party's candidates in the region rise.
Waiting for the Greens and other parties
The Greens have not yet nominated any candidates for the election, but plan to do so in early 2026. The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) and the Left in Western Pomerania have not yet published any candidate lists. Until the political cards are reshuffled, it remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether new faces will enter the political arena.
It's not always easy in politics, especially when the winds change. It remains exciting to see who can ultimately win the trust of voters and who will have a decisive influence on the political landscape in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Stay tuned for further developments from the region!
