Specialist Scheer leaves the district hospital after 32 years – new chapter!

In the world of medicine, change is often a part of life, and Christian Scheer knows that too. After more than 32 years at the Prenzlau District Hospital, the 58-year-old specialist in internal medicine, specializing in cardiology and diabetology, will take on a new challenge from July 1, 2025. How Northern Courier reports, Scheer will take over his own practice at Grabowstrasse 32 in Prenzlau in the future.

His professional career is impressive: After studying medicine at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Scheer started as an assistant doctor in Prenzlau in 1992, spent his training as a specialist in cardiology at the Schwedt Clinic Uckermark and returned in 2007 as a senior physician. Since 2012, he has led the internal clinic as chief physician. Saying goodbye is not easy, as the deep personal connections with his colleagues make the change bittersweet.

Renovation plans and new paths

The impetus for his move is the recently presented renovation plans for the Medical Social Center (MSZ) Uckermark, which envisage converting the Prenzlau location into a specialist clinic for geriatric medicine. In particular, the closure of important areas, such as the intensive care unit, significantly limits Scheer's field of action. He sees taking over his own practice as an opportunity to continue his passion for cardiology in a new environment.

In his new practice, the experienced cardiologist plans to offer a comprehensive range of services, including cardiac diagnostics, cardiac ultrasound, ergometry and long-term ECG. The first outpatient consultation will take place on July 9, 2025, in which he would like to care for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases - one of the most common causes of death in Germany. These diseases, which include heart attacks and high blood pressure, make it necessary for high-quality medical care to be available even in rural areas.

Cardiology – A comprehensive field

Cardiology is not only the largest branch of internal medicine, but also includes many different aspects, such as Medical Journal explained. The 72-month specialist training requires not only specialization in cardiology but also experience in other areas such as emergency and intensive care medicine. Despite the challenges cardiologists face, demand for their expertise remains high. There are around 5,712 specialists in internal medicine and cardiology working in Germany, many of whom are urgently needed.

Christian Scheer's change is a matter of the heart and reflects the changes in healthcare. His new practice not only offers new opportunities for him, but also for many patients who rely on the expertise of an experienced cardiologist.
