On October 31, 2025, the “Uckermark Against Leukemia” (UgL) association fulfilled one of the last heartfelt wishes of the seriously ill Stefan: a trip to the Baltic Sea. This special day began for Stefan, who is in the Eberswalde hospice, when he was picked up by the patient mobile, accompanied by his father. A wish that was of great importance to both father and son came true on this overwhelming day.
The fresh, salty air and the cheerful squawks of seagulls by the sea made this trip unforgettable. Kerstin Karsch, a loyal supporter of the club, visited the group during the trip and even brought a small gift. The sea makes the heart beat faster and for many is the epitome of freedom and joy. On the way back we decided to go to a restaurant to fortify ourselves with coffee and fried fish rolls. Stefan treated himself to a few fries and a root beer - a little joy in a challenging time.
Shared moments in difficult times
Stefan's exhaustion was noticeable despite the happy excursion, which is why the group soon made its way back to the hospice. Ines Baumgarten, the chairwoman of UgL, expressed her wish for more beautiful moments for Stefan and his father. It is such shared experiences that can bring light into the darkness in difficult times.
This campaign by the association shows how important social support and human closeness are in difficult life situations. The trip to the Baltic Sea will be remembered as a valuable moment not only for Stefan, but also for everyone involved.
