Mühlentor in Templin shines after extensive renovation!
An important step towards preserving a historical landmark has been taken in Templin in the last few days. The mill gate, the oldest and smallest of the three surviving gates of the city fortifications, has undergone extensive renovation. Construction work, which took about a week, focused on repairing joints in the floor and masonry. Silke Gisder from the city's building department confirmed the necessity of these measures, which were carried out by Manuel Börner, the operator of a construction and jointing company from Strasburg. In addition, the reliefs on the outside facing the city center and the bright plastered surfaces above were given a fresh look.
Small repairs are necessary to ensure the integrity of the monument in the long term. As with many historical sites, the preservation of monuments is seen as an ongoing task, which shows parallels to the maintenance of the city wall. By the way, the mill gate dates back to the 14th century and is a stylish example of brick Gothic.
A piece of history in brick Gothic style
The brick Gothic has a firm place in architectural history not only in Templin, but also in many other cities in Germany and beyond. This special design is part of the European Route of Brick Gothic, which brings together cities, regions and institutions that have unique buildings from this style. The route not only promotes cultural heritage, but also artistic and scientific exchange across borders. This includes hundreds of sacred and secular buildings in Denmark, Germany and Poland, including monasteries, churches and city fortifications.
The “Paths to Brick Gothic” initiative was launched in the 1990s to preserve these monuments, especially in the former GDR area. A highlight of the efforts was the exhibition “Burned Greatness”, which was shown in several Hanseatic cities in 2002. The European Brick Gothic Route Association, founded in 2007, has continued to develop since then and actively participates in events.
Future and equal opportunities
In another corner of the world, the well-known company Microsoft takes care of the growth and development of its employees. Great importance is placed here on an inclusive corporate culture: “We are a mission-driven company,” says the company management. The mission is to help every person and organization in this country achieve more. Additionally, Microsoft offers best-in-class benefits for employees and their families, assists them with job interviews, and promotes diversity and inclusion.
This positive attitude towards growth and equal opportunities is reflected both in the architecture of the mill gate and in Microsoft's corporate philosophy. In both cases, a clear vision emerges: preserving values and creating opportunities are the responsibility of the community - be it through preserving monuments or supporting people in their professional careers.
