Naugarten shines in the competition: Community with heart and passion!
On July 18, 2025, Naugarten was firmly the focus of the jury of the state competition "Our village has a future". The village community and its numerous members had already prepared intensively for this important day in advance. The mayor Ina Rostek and the district administrator Karina Dörk welcomed the jurors in the village community hall and thus laid the foundation for an impressive presentation of the strengths and the community performance of the small village. Many Naugarteners were present to represent their homeland and show what the village has to offer.
The event started with a special musical contribution: Elija Klark, in fire clothes, delighted the audience with the song "Heideröslein". This was only the first part of a varied program presented by Uta Wilde from Theater89. In addition to a tour of the village community center and the church, visits to the Schlossberg were also on the program. Jens Radtke explained the ongoing expansion work on the church, while the church choir came up with an impressive singing. Here it became clear once again how much the village relies on cultural and social values.
commitment and history
The contribution by Silvia Ryl, who explained the origin of the place name "Naugarten" to those interested in the interested parties, was particularly exciting. Rolf-Dieter Eutin took the audience on a trip to the history of the Waldeck settlement and thus aroused interest in the history of the place. Ulrich Koch, forester in the region, also spoke about the challenges that the forest had had to do since 2018 by drought, storm and beetle attack. His explanations about civic engagement in the area of afforestation showed how the villagers hold together and become active to protect and maintain their surroundings.
The water level was also a topic that Matthias Benthin spoke to the lake association. He reported on the water quality of Lake Naugarten and the measures taken by the village community for improvement. Jens Mesecke addressed a sustainable agricultural policy and the collaboration with the hunters, a further evidence of the regional networking and the common spirit of the village. The village square, a central place for the community and the history of Naugarten, played an important role here.
The competition at an overview of
The state competition "Our village has a future" does not only captivate Naugarten. In 2024, 72 villages in Brandenburg applied, 16 of which were selected to reach the second round. Only two villages will be represented by Brandenburg in the upcoming national competition. Not only the current situation of the villages, but also their development potential and the commitment of the village communities are evaluated. In order to support the participants, the Ministry of Nutrition, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection provides a grant of 3,000 euros. The prize money for the best villages ranges from 3,000 to 15,000 euros.
The decision about the representatives of Brandenburg is also today, and the ceremonial award ceremony will take place on September 12th in Fredersdorf. The winning villages can hope for an award at the Green Week in Berlin, where they are received by the Federal President. The competition is part of an important program for rural development and has steadily developed since its foundation in 1962 in order to make the villages more livable and attractive. It is no longer just about the beautification by flowers and green, but a comprehensive concept that focuses on social, cultural and economic aspects so that the villages can remain future -proof. [Nordkurier] (https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/uckermark/naugarten- indexed-dorf-mit-herz-wand-hand-hand-halt-3753530) reports that the jury was impressed by the village community and the commitment of the residents. The Ministry of Nutrition, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection also emphasizes how important this competition is for the promotion of civic engagement in the villages - a central strength for our future.
