Serbia in turmoil: Violent protests against Vucic escalate!
The streets of Serbia are currently dominated by massive protests against the government of President Aleksandar Vucic. On the evening of August 14, 2025, the situation escalated again when demonstrators in the second city of Novi Sad broke the windows of the office of the ruling SNS party and broke into the building. Clashes also broke out in Belgrade when government opponents were pelted with fireworks by SNS supporters. The protests are not limited to just one city; They took place in front of SNS party headquarters in more than 30 places across the country, where demonstrators encountered police barriers and party supporters.
The incidents from the previous evening, in which many people were injured, are worrying. The clashes between demonstrators and police resulted in dozens of injuries. President Vucic reacted with sharp words and called the protesters “criminals”. He also announced that he would “clean” the streets of them. The roots of these protests go back over nine months, sparked by a tragedy in which 16 people died when a train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024. Independent experts and opposition figures blame the Vucic government's sloppiness and corruption for this disaster.
Growing dissatisfaction
The headquarters of the protest movement criticizes the government as corrupt and authoritarian. People are not only demanding new elections, but also the resignation of the president. Recent protests have been further fueled by attacks on anti-government demonstrators that took place in cities such as Vrbas and Backa Palanka, where police did not intervene. This lack of police protection has increased feelings of insecurity among protesters and fueled anger against the existing government.
Amid this political unrest, economic events in other parts of the world are also having an impact. For example, the Brazilian bank Itaú recorded a net profit of R$ 11.5 billion in the second quarter of 2025, an increase of 14.3% compared to the same quarter last year. Itaúsa, the parent company, is not far behind and was able to report a profit of R$ 4 billion. Particularly noteworthy are the dividend figures, which reflect a strategic decision that focuses on both returns and payouts to shareholders.
Market dynamics and challenges
For 2025, a dividend yield of 8.09% for Itaúsa and 7.28% for Itaú is forecast, attracting the attention of investing eyes. Given these developments, dividend policies in the financial world will continue to be closely monitored. While some analysts see growth as positive, others warn of possible challenges due to the current political uncertainties.
