Storm warning for NRW: Up to 90 km/h and thunderstorms threaten!

Autumn is showing its stormy side: A strong low that is currently blowing over southern Scandinavia is bringing uncomfortable weather to North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). As the German Weather Service ( DWD ) informed, strong squalls are expected in parts of the state. With wind speeds of up to 90 km/h, extreme caution is required, especially at higher altitudes.

An official warning of stronger thunderstorms in the eastern districts and cities was issued this morning at 10:08 a.m., which is valid until 11 a.m., according to reports from colleagues Calf. The regions in the southwest and southeast of North Rhine-Westphalia are particularly affected, where the warning will remain in effect until the evening.

Gusts and thunderstorms

Since October 26th, the storm “Joshua” has been causing chaotic conditions with constant rain and strong gusts of wind throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. Wind gusts of between 65 and 80 km/h can be expected in the districts of Soest, Hamm, East Westphalia and Münsterland. In the Aachen area, stormy gusts fluctuate between 60 and 75 km/h, and at higher altitudes there are even gusts of up to 85 km/h. According to the current reports from the DWD, the warnings are formulated until Monday evening.

Particular attention is required when going on excursions into nature or when traveling, as the weather conditions remain unpredictable. From Monday morning there is even a threat of isolated thunderstorms with stormy gusts of around 75 km/h. While people in North Rhine-Westphalia have to be careful due to these weather conditions, wind speeds from the west and southwest should not be underestimated, even at higher altitudes.

Effects on everyday life

The week starts off stormy with these weather forecasts: Gusts of up to 60 km/h can be expected in the lowlands, while even 70 km/h is not uncommon in the mountains. With temperatures that can vary greatly, showers can be expected throughout the day. Another point that should not simplify the situation is the possibility of small hail and sleet as the thunderstorms move across the country.

The coming days could bring relief for many, as the wind will ease slightly from Tuesday, but heavy showers are still possible. So if you're looking for a break in nature, you should keep a close eye on the weather reports and prepare accordingly for the weather conditions.

Anyone who would like to find out more about the current weather situation can regularly check the DWD's warning reports and prepare well for the challenge of autumn weather.
