Templin, Deutschland - from May 12th to 31st, 2025 there was something going on again in Templin: the city took part in the international competition of the climate alliance for the third time-the city bike. This year there were 457 active participants from 29 teams, including students, parents, teachers and even grandparents who laid over 91,000 kilometers on their bikes. The team "Flotten calves" from the primary school "Am Egelpfuhl" cycled the most hardworking with over 17,000 kilometers and secured first place in the team ranking, as the Nordkurier reports.

compared to the previous year, when the Templin cyclists covered over 117,546 kilometers, this was a decline. The inconsistent weather during the campaign period leads many cyclists: inside, letting the bike stand. Nevertheless, the numbers are impressive, and the joy of the participants about the covering of climate -friendly paths was great. The return of the popular Biennale attracted many citizens: inside and even politicians: inside the saddle to actively do something for climate protection.

climate protection and cycling infrastructure

With this action, not only competition is promoted, but also a strong sign for the need for a better cycling infrastructure. According to the Federal Environment Agency, the city cycling competition aims to encourage people to play everyday life by bike in order to enjoy health benefits and sustainable mobility. Every kilometer counts, especially if it is covered instead of a car.

This initiative is not only very well received in Templin, but nationwide and beyond. The participants: are called on the inside, because the total period for the campaign ends in September 2025, and the results will be published in October.

be it out of personal drive or in the sign of climate protection, the Templiners have shown that they can keep a cool head - even if the weather was not always played. In the coming years it will be shown whether it can be possible to increase the impressive numbers and even more citizens: to motivate cycling inside. In the end, not only the competition counts, but a whole way of life. Who knows: maybe one day Templin will become a bicycle city?
