Theater magic in the tent: 31 premieres and big highlights 2025/26!

The Mecklenburg State Theater has put together an exciting and varied program for the coming 2025/26 season. Under the motto “We are here”, the theater is planning an extra-long program with a particular focus on diversity and innovation, despite the closure of the Great House due to construction. A total of 31 premieres and 18 revivals will take place, supplemented by more than 30 concerts by the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle and numerous special events and guest performances. Again Uckermark courier reports, the theater tent in the kitchen garden will be the main venue during the closure and can accommodate 500 spectators.

But what are the highlights of the new season? It starts with the premiere of “Portrait of My Mother with Ghosts” on September 19th in the M*Halle, followed by other exciting pieces such as “Merlin or The Waste Land” on September 26th and the classic “Hamlet” on January 17th. The “Threepenny Opera” will also be brought to the stage on June 19, 2026. The family play “Wunschpunsch” will be performed for little theater fans from November 29th. These fairways are entirely in the spirit of the artistic direction, which faces the challenges of the current situation with a fresh approach.

The program in detail

The program in the alternative venue includes, among other things, the operetta “Die Fledermaus”, the dark musical “Sweeney Todd” and the play production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. The NDR emphasizes that the theater is planning future-oriented plays, including premieres such as “Kulturhaus, mon amour” and the musical “Hexenholz”, which is based on “Hansel and Gretel”. The combination of classical and contemporary pieces is intended to appeal to a wide audience and ensure lively evenings.

There are also exciting developments in the ballet department. The ballet ensemble will surprise with “Connection#5” and three new ballet evenings. In addition, the renowned choreographer Jonathan dos Santos is planning his first story ballet entitled “Quid si sic”, inspired by Schwerin’s Petermännchen. Here you can see the **creative development** that is on the agenda despite financial and logistical challenges.

Organizational changes and challenges

The theater has made organizational changes. In the theater tent, two productions from different genres will be performed in a block over around eight weeks. In the future, the symphony concerts will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the first row being led by guest conductors. Despite the promising plans, the situation is not entirely easy. The n-tv shows that visitor numbers could fall from the original 140,000 to an expected 120,000. The overall budget is coming under pressure due to rising personnel costs and falling ticket revenues, which is why the company has to rely on support from the state, whose annual subsidies cannot fully cover the cost increases.

Subscriptions are already very popular. Before sales started on July 4th, 520 orders had already been accepted. Theater fans can be excited to see how the season will develop and what new impulses the ensemble can bring. It remains to be seen how the audience will react to the new formats and the predominantly mobile productions and whether the high demand can spur the leap into the new season in the long term.
