Accident in Prenzlau: Moped driver injured – police are looking for witnesses!
An accident with two slightly injured young people caused a stir on Schwedter Strasse in Prenzlau on Monday afternoon. A 15-year-old moped driver crashed into an Audi in front of him for unknown reasons. The impact resulted in both the moped driver and his 15-year-old passenger falling and sustaining minor injuries. They then had to be taken to hospital to have their wounds treated. The criminal police have initiated intensive investigations because the driver of the Audi fled the scene of the accident without permission and did not take care of the two young people. The police are calling on the public to help: Witnesses to the incident should come forward to provide information about what happened to the accident. Information can be given by telephone to the Uckermark police station on 03984/350 or online at polbb.eu/Notice. This is reported by the SVZ.
The incident doesn't exactly come as a surprise considering recent statistics and events. Last weekend, the police in the Uckermark reported a total of 15 traffic accidents, including another accident on Schwedter Straße. In this accident, a 17-year-old girl's motorcycle rammed two other cyclists who were waiting at a traffic light because she braked too late. She was also seriously injured and had to be taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. Fortunately, the other two motorcycles remained drivable. In this context, the police have also determined that five accidents were caused by animal crossings and are warning vehicle drivers to be particularly vigilant in the morning and evening hours, as wild animals are increasingly on the roads. Further alarming data shows that two drunk drivers were reported - one in Prenzlau with a blood alcohol level of 0.68 and one in Templin with a blood alcohol level of 2.56. This leads to administrative offenses and criminal proceedings, reports the Northern Courier.
Particular dangers for young road users
The safety situation for young people on the roads remains worrying. According to reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Youth for Road Safety (YOURS) organization, more young people between the ages of 15 and 29 die from traffic accidents than from HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis or murder. In particular, although the absolute number of road deaths in this age group has fallen, the rates per 100,000 or million inhabitants remain higher compared to other age groups. Young people mainly get into accidents as passengers in cars or riding motorcycles. Known risk factors include excessive speed, overconfidence and alcohol and drug abuse. It is therefore important to focus more on road safety and take preventative measures to reduce the number of accidents, according to the findings of Dekra Road Safety.
These current events and statistics should serve as a wake-up call for all road users. The safety of young drivers in particular must be the focus of attention because each individual has an influence on preventing accidents on the road.
