Desperate search for pastor: Schönfeld's churches are empty!

The search for a new pastor for the Schönfeld/Uckermark Evangelical Church Community is extremely difficult. The pastor's position has been vacant since the end of August after the previous pastor retired. The congregation, which consists of four local churches and has around 510 members, has so far been unsuccessful in its search for a successor. We are looking for someone who would like to work in rural areas with joy and new ideas. This challenge is also influenced by Schönfeld's attractive location. The place, quietly located in the northeast of Brandenburg between Prenzlau and Pasewalk, is only about 1.5 hours away from Berlin and the Baltic Sea and could certainly offer attractive sides with its hilly landscape and many lakes.

However, there is a lot to offer for the right person: A spacious and renovated rectory on a park-like property is available as official housing. In addition, there are no administrative tasks for the new pastor, as excellent full-time employees support the parish work, including two full-time parish workers who take on manual tasks and a part-time employee in the senior citizen visiting service. Eleven renovated churches with organs, a manor house with assisted living and a youth hostel are also waiting for the new manager.

An important year for pastors

As part of a new cooperation project, the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia as well as the Evangelical Church in Central Germany and the Evangelical Regional Church of Anhalt want to simplify the filling of pastoral positions. From 2025, theologians who are already working in the region can also apply for pastoral positions in the other participating regional churches without any additional effort. This agreement, which is a trial period for one year, is intended to increase the attractiveness of the churches for ordained people and reduce administrative burdens. This shows that we will continue to rely on flexible solutions in the future to counteract the challenges in the pastoral profession.
